Title: Sometimes

Rating: PG-13

Disclaimer: Don't own them. A bunch of guys at Marvel own the characters, and Bryan Singer did the movie.

Notes: This occured to me after watching the movie the second time.

Sometimes Mystique wears Bobby's face, and it makes John grip his lighter a little more tightly, flick it on and off with a little more force. She/He smirks, the familiar lips shifting into a not-so familiar expression, and John closes his eyes, grabbing for him/her blindly. It's different than Bobby was, not nearly as cold, but it's something. Something to drive the loneliness away.

It's worse when the face Mystique wears is Rogue's. But it's a touchable, kissable Rogue, and the only problem there is that the sweet-spiciness of her scent is missing. John slides his fingers over non-lethal smooth skin, making believe it's really her, that Bobby's girlfriend is truly lying spent in his arms.

The worst part of it is that there's only one Mystique. She never comes to him as herself, only as his friends, and John wonders why. He touches her arm one day, when she's actually herself, blue, scaly and unrepentant, and she turns yellow eyes like flames on him. He lets go and she turns away, and John flicks his lighter, drawing the warmth from the fire back into the chill of his veins.
