"I've been thinking lately."

"That could be dangerous," I mused, breathing softly. Lying down on top of a red Porsche was uncomfortable as hell. But, it was either that or deal with our friends, the insects, in the grass. We were looking up at the stars, noticing how they've begun to fade from our naked eyes. Over the past few months, one by one, the stars began to disappear. I strained my eyes trying to locate Sirius tonight. We drove as far from town as we could to see the stars, thinking that the lights were affecting our ability to see the stars without a telescope.

"Well, if it's dangerous to think, then it's also dangerous to breathe," he teased, laughing all the while.

"We don't live in America, my friend," I pointed out, knowing that we only know each other through mutual friends. It was the first time that he and I had a conversation without our mutual friends present. But then, that was a good thing. I ask, "So, what have you been thinking about lately?"

"About a shadow that's been growing in my mind recently."

"Oh? What kind of shadow?"

"The red death."

"...You've been reading too many Edgar Allan Poe stories," I pointed out, trying my best to keep my hair from obscuring my view of the stars.

"I had a dream that the red death claimed his life. He was a bloody mess, laying down on a bed that was decorated in all white, just like the room. And he was holding a bouquet of red roses, his lifeless eyes staring up at me. I couldn't go back to sleep after that dream. I wonder what it means?"

"It means that you've been reading too many horror stories for your own good," I suggested, bothered by his dream. I tried to lighten the mood, but the darkness in the sky ruins my mood.

"I just can't help it. He's going away tomorrow and I can't help but wanting to keep him here, no matter how good the college is," he confessed, breathing heavily as though he removed a great weight from his heart.

"He truly is the star in our life. Isn't he?", I ask him, closing my eyes. The sky was pulling me into an abyss that I didn't want to be dragged in. More stars were fading out on us.

"Yes. And I'm afraid that our star will die on us," he says, brushing his blonde hair back a little.

"Don't worry, my friend. Our star won't die on us. He's the very thing that seduces both of our hearts," I perceived, trying to assure him that our beautiful star wouldn't drop dead on us in an instant, "Besides, I've finally realized what we are."

"Human?", he joked, laughing all the while.

"No."

"Then, what are we, Yuuichirou?"

"Motoki, we're like moths drawn to a flame. And once we reach that flame, we burn. Burn into a sweet oblivion caused by him. It's a shame that we know him and yet, we'll never have him."

"I'm jealous of that rabbit."

"Me too, Motoki. Me too."

AUTHOR'S NOTES: Yes, my dear audience, I realize that this is short and has no real and relevant plot. But, after reading too many Edgar Allan Poe stories, I had to write this. ^.^
