Home is where the heart is. By Blue ice

The heavy rain pounded on the pavement as a lonely figure trudged down the empty streets alone. Soaked to the bone Katsumi recalled what happened that week. " Mother! No! Don't leave me here alone, mother…" she sobbed as she collapsed beside her mother's dead body.
Her mother was on her way to Katsumi's school that night. She got the leading part in the school's play. Her mother was looking forward to seeing her daughter up on stage…but she never made it. Her car was smashed under an eighteen-wheeler; her little car didn't have a chance.

Now without any relative to help her get through this she wandered the empty city streets, looking for something she didn't know. "How?" Katsumi now stood at the shrine where her and her family when before her father left them. She never came to the shrine since then, it only reminded her of the pain when he left. Now it only reminded her of how truly alone in this world she was. The leaves rustled in the wind as Katsumi sat herself down near the willow tree at the edge of the path. " I wonder how different it would be if father stayed." She mused, "Maybe we could all be happy somewhere. I guess I'll never know what a true family is." She said lifting herself of the lush grass. Katsumi raised her eyes to the starry sky. For a long time she stared at it, she felt drawn to it like it was her answer. Suddenly without warning a column of bright light enveloped her and lifted her into the night sky. She felt warm inside the light; no fear, she had nothing to lose anymore.
