Rurouni Kenshin
Choices
Written by: Spike (who does not own Rurouni Kenshin, and uh... yeah.)
A/N: This is a poem I wrote in my head while watching the horribly edited episode 52 of RK. It popped up again while watching Big O Act 14. Go figure... Well, I guess my pen namesake finally gets a poem! The ending has influence from The Matrix, too.
Choices (Kenshin's Point Of View)
Choices...
What we do in life...
What we reflect upon in later years...
It is naught of our concern.
Right?
Wrong. For we are our choices...
What happens in your life
Is reflected upon in the afterlife.
It is said that your judgement
Will burn through your body
And you will forever face Him
Until your soul chooses a path.
Choices... they even appear
In the afterlife.
But just remember...
Your memories... your visions...
What you see right now...
It is all you will have in life.
Do not waste it along.
Don't let them slip and fade away
From your life.
But don't let your memories bind you
To a fate that you don't agree.
Do not let your memories live your life.
People are not ruled by their memories.
No one can be ruled by what has passed.
Not even me.
Because I have found a way to preserve those memories
And begin a new life...
Without letting those memories slip away.
Choices... they define your destiny...
Not your fate, but your destiny.
If you do not believe in yourself,
You will lose your right to choose.
That can never happen... no matter what it costs.
Choices are the most important thing in a life...
They will send you on a road of righteousness...
Or despair...
Sometimes I wonder, if we didn't have the right to choose,
Would we lose our freedom altogether?
Or would we just be sent to a task
And asked to complete it?
I do not know. All I know...
Is that a path one takes
Can be said by the choice
And cannot be held back by the memories.
The chains of time continue forever,
Regardless of your choice.
Whether you do good or bad...
That is one choice I can leave to you.
Do not be afraid to choose.
It is one of your only rights.
People will fight for it with their lives...
So don't let their deaths be in vain.
I won't let their deaths be in vain.
Because I'm the cause for their deaths.
Sometimes I cry at night...
Because even though the chains of memories
Bind me to a twisted destiny...
I shall continue to live my life,
And fight my battle...
Even correct my wrong from so many years ago.
If that means my life...
Then you will not let it be in vain.
I made a choice... so long ago...
Now, I shall pay for it...
Because it is now a memory that I cannot shake.
Death does not belong here anymore...
But as long as the Devil,
And his wonderland of fires and hellspawn exist...
There will always be death.
Why... was it...
Because of me?
Perhaps... my payment is much more painful than I thought.
But no matter what...
I shall let my future choices become my new life...
And I shall protect her...
With my life.
Choices... definers of your destiny.
Red pill, or blue pill?
It is a choice of your own.
Be not afraid, for your choices...
They are still here.
Do not waste them...
