Anticipation

The rights to the characters of Smallville belong to its producers, the WB Network and DC Comics.  I own them not.

Lex nervously checked his watch for the hundredth time.  "Hurry up, Clark!"

Clark rolled his eyes as he dragged the two meteor freaks who'd tried to attack him behind the dumpsters and into the shadowy side alley near the Talon.  "You've got two hours yet before it's on!" he yelled over his shoulder at Lex who was waiting impatiently outside the rear door of the Talon, drumming his fingers on the railing.  One of the men started to struggle and Clark flicked him in the forehead with his index finger, rendering him instantly unconscious again.  Clark raced back around the corner of the building and up to the back steps.  He was moving normally by the time Lex saw him.  "Okay, we can go now.  Why are you so worried?  Can't you just tape it?"

"Oh, I am.  I'm recording it on DVD from the satellite and taping it from cable in case I lose the satellite feed.  Enrique's standing by just in case the power goes out and we have to rely on the generator."  Lex did look a little sheepish at this last admission.

"Well…looks like you've got all the bases covered so…why are you nervous about getting home?"

"I just want to see it as soon as it's broadcast and I don't want to be late."

"Two hours, Lex!  It takes fifteen minutes to get to the mansion!  How could you be late?"

"I-well, anything could happen between here and there.  I could be…abducted or…have a flat tire…or…what if I had an accident?"

Clark had to admit, that, at least, was a possibility.  "Okay, okay, let's get going."

"What was all that thumping in the alley?"  Lex was walking faster as they approached his new Porsche.

Uh, oh.  Clark had been afraid he'd ask why he'd run off into the dark alley.  "Um, well, I…I thought I heard a-"

"Oh, Clark, I don't even care.  Just get in; let's GO!"  Clark's door was still hanging open and he nearly fell out when Lex gunned the engine, burning rubber as he headed down Main Street in the direction of the mansion.

"I've never seen you so excited."

"I've been waiting for this for years.  I just hope it's as good as it sounds."

"It is the WB, after all.  You know…Dawson's Creek…teen angst and love triangles."

"These guys say they're serious and that they'll respect the legend.  There're the guys who did Shanghai Noon."

Clark started to laugh.  "Those guys?  The ones who do the buddy movies?"  He leaned over to Lex and said, "You know, Chloe said there were already rumors flying about gay subtext between the main characters.  She said she'd read on a website that the producers were absolutely livid when they heard.  One of 'em cried."

"They'd better not mess this up!  I own stock in that network!  If they screw up the first TV show about young Warrior Angel before he was a superhero, heads will roll!"

"So…you're saying you don't see the subtext."

            "Well…I didn't say that."
