Chapter 1: Cannon Fire

The moon was shinning a brilliant blue against the darkness of space, a cluster of stars surrounded the large, round orb, seeming to burst out and multiply all over the night sky. A twenty-something girl, with brown hair and sad dark eyes to match, sighed deeply from her bedroom balcony. Every night she stared up at the moon, then out across the sea, dreaming of adventures she wished to be a part of.

"Oh, how I wish to sail the sea," the girl sang to the night, "upon a ship, so dear to me. The one I only see... in my dreams." She hummed a few more notes, turned away from the fresh sea air, and walked to her bed.

Discarding her white walk-about robe, she slid beneath the thick covers of her extravagant bed, pulling the long train of her nightgown with her. She unceremoniously plopped her head back against the lightest colored and largest of the five pillows stacked neatly behind and beside her. She sighed once more, and proceeded to toss and turn to find a more suitable position for sleeping.

Not long after the young damsel had journeyed to the land of dreams was she awoken by the very loud and very annoying sound of cannon fire. She jumped from her bed, breathed in a deep breath as her feet touched the ice cold wooden floor, and gasped as she fell, apparently, to converse with the floor more closely, she had twisted the train of her nightgown about her legs. As much as she was in a hurry to look out of her balcony window, she escaped the confines of the elegant nightgown and pulled on her pair of ridding pants and a shirt permanently grass stained from her many tumbles off a horse.

She ran to the balcony, and gazed across the stretch of land that separated her home from the sea. What she saw made her breath halt in her throat. A ship, a grand ship with slightly torn sails and rotting wood, was anchored a ways from the port. The young woman could see the occupants of the ship were not dressed as men from the navy, but as men who did not care what the world thought; these men were dressed as pirates!

Author note: Wow, I actually finished a chapter, ok I've done that before, but this is a decent chapter! If you would like me to continue, I need a name for the girl! I was looking up 17th Century names and couldn't find anything I really thought would be good. I would love your input, how would you like the story to progress?
