True Reflection
Through the streets of forgotten
I came upon something quite strange
A scintillating object ahead of me
Blinding to the eye
Teary to the touch
A few more steps and sight was given
And as I peered down into a pit of flame
I saw the shell of a miserable woman
One who left frowns on the faces of the blessed
And regretted all of her turns
I leaned down to help her from her place
But she turned my hand away
Not wanting to live out of sorrow
Afraid of the life beyond her rotting walls
I need not of pleasure she spat
For if I stay here I can promise my woes
Too many times have I turned toward happiness
And too many times has it led me away
Appalled by her cruel response I turned
But something caught my eye as I shifted
The woman wore a scar on her cheek
A familiar gash
And as I leaned closer to the pit
I saw who she truly was
This cowardly being was not some stranger
This cold creature, was me
And as I glanced around the corners of the pit
I realized it was not holding the souls of regret
It merely held water,
Lit by the sun it blinded me
It wasn't miraculous at all
Just a puddle filled with my misery
The thing no one else has ever seen
..My true reflection.
