The Capacity of the Heart

A short poem in Erik's point of view about his life from where Christine joined it…  My very changeable muse had a flash of poetic inspiration while I was writing my phic, and this is the product – so enjoy…

Erik

I know a story of a man like me,

Who loved a girl more than most can know.

His love for her could fill the open seas,

But for her heart he found he had a foe.

In looks his rival had no parallel,

So he dared not hope that the girl would stay –

To take him out of his eternal Hell.

Instead, he slowly wished his life away…

This is where the two stories part,

For in the tale, the man did die,

And the girl was left with a broken heart,

Her life was gone in the space of a sigh.

But up in Heaven, their souls did link,

And true love let them marry,

God's power made their spirits sink,

Back to Earth and they found a way.

My own little story differs slightly,

"I love you, Erik," Christine once did say.

I never thought that our love could be,

But we've been together each and every day.

Well, as we travel from way to way,

We together can never be apart,

Wherever we may be,

She lives on in my heart!
