A Dream Away
Jon Roskilly
Tidus awoke, the early morning air clinging around him. The only noise was the birds outside, the only light from a swirling blue sphere near his bed. He sat up, looking around at the slumbering faces of his companions; Rikku, staying quiet for a brief period before the day comes; Wakka, dreaming of his time with the Aurochs; Lulu, looking more dead than dreaming; Auron, taking the opportunity to sleep just this once, Kimahri, standing at the door, keeping a steady lookout, never seeming to need rest; and in the bed at the far side, the one they all would give their life for. Somehow, even laid out on the matress, she seemed perfect. Still, she looked breakable, as if she was touched she would surely fall apart right there. Tidus ran his fingers together, quietly remembering the time he spent with her, remembering that moment when they, soaked through, both let their positions slip for a short while. But that was gone, the doubt in his mind strong to say it would never happen again. He slumped back down again, trying to get back to his own dream-world. At least in his imagination it could happen more than once.
In his imagination, they could be together for ever.
