She was perfect. In looks, but certainly not personality. But it didn't
matter to Miles "Tails" Prower. No, to him she was a heavenly goddess, an
angel with a mean streak, a theif with kindness. Knuckles's rival. Rouge
the Bat. The treasure hunter, Rouge.
Rouge was sitting on the edge of a road-bridge. Her right leg was over her
left, and she was bobbing it up and down while sighing and gazing at the
sea twenty feet below.
Tails, forty feet away, hiding behind a bush, peeked out between the leaves
at the lovely woman. He did this every night. She was his obsession. He
never breathed a word to her, never even took in a breath. If only she knew
how he felt, but he couldn't tell her. If rejected, his world would come
crashing down around him. So he secretly watched her by the sea every
night. This night was different, however. Tonight she came towards him,
then turned onto the strand of beach. The brightly lit streetlights over
the road bridge supplied light.
The moon illuminated her face as she kicked off her flip flops and walked
barefoot in the cool sand. She kicked at the small waves, splashing
droplets of water back to the sea it came from, only to be washed up to
shore in another wave. The site was breathtaking. As Tails took in all of
her beauty, he thought of the poem he had written that he didn't dare read
to her.
My Capricorn Queen
She reigns supreme
Within my head
I lie in bed
And sleep and dream
Of my Capricorn Queen.
Tails snapped back to reality. He was still behind the dark foliage, while
Rouge, his queen, was sitting on the beach, arms around her knees. He
approached her cautiously, careful not to make any sound. She turned her
head to look at the dark ocean, and he sat down next to her. She turned to
see him sitting next to her. Her mouth made an 'O' of surprise. He couldn't
bare to be without her a second longer as he risked everything and kissed
her passionately at that moment. She didn't understand. Why was he doing
this? Was this some sort of trick?
After a second or two, Tails broke off the kiss and stood up. Then, he flew
off back to his apartment. It was the best moment of his life. He didn't
know what would come next, but for that single star-shimmering moment,
nothing mattered.
Epilogue:
Rouge's head was spinning for the next few days, until Tails explained to
Rouge why he had kissed her. He gave her the poem he had written, and she
thought it was so sweet they started dating.
