Disclaimer: I do not own POTC. I do not even own a way of getting to the theatre to see POTC, which is why I'm home writing this instead of seeing it with my friends. Oh well. Such is life.

Jack stood at the helm, thoroughly enjoying the feel of the sea breeze whipping through his beaded dreadlocks. This was the only life for him: the sea, his ship, his freedom. That was what his life was about. That was all he ever wanted and it was all he ever got. He didn't need anybody. At least, that was what he always told himself. If he ever needed anybody he would never admit it. He didn't trust anybody loser then sword's length. Pirates were not a trustworthy group anyways. So it was all well and good that he didn't trust them. Sure it was rough, but why should he trust anyone? They always let him down, or even worse, flat out betrayed him. Barbossa commited mutiny. Jack had trusted him with the map, trusted him to help. Not maroon him and steal his ship. Jack had trusted Bootstrap, even dared to call him a friend. But he couldn't help when Jack needed it most. Sure he tried but in the end Jack was left to fend for himself. As he was for the next ten years. Left to wander around the Caribbean without a friend to his name, trying against all hope to get his ship back. He was imprisoned without her. Even she had betrayed him. But she had had no choice. She was stolen from him. Bootstrap hadn't stood a chance. He was weak. To trust him or anybody else was a sign of weakness. It proved you were afraid, that you were a coward. One who couldn't face the world, but had to cower behind others.

Didn't it?

"Oh Jack..."

A/N: That was completely off the top of my head. Sorry if the order of ideas is a bit messy. R/R if you care too.
