"Hey Lily, could I talk to you?" a voice called to her.
"Yeah, of course you can Lupin. I always have time for my best friend." Lily replied.
Lily and Remeus Lupin had been best friends since the first journey to Hogwarts. Remeus was sitting alone on the train, and there were no other empty compartments, so Lily asked if she could join him. They realized how much they had in common, and became friends instantly. It wasn't until they were both sorted into the Gryffindor house that they became best friends. They would work on homework together, sit next to each other in class, play chess together in the common room; everything was done together.
A few weeks after the term started, people started to realize how friendly Remeus and Lily were. Lupin became friends with two other guys in his year, James Potter and Sirius Black. Lily began to make friends too, with Sandra Wilson and Anna Brown. Lily loved spending time with her new best girlfriends, but she missed Lupin. They would still hang out together, but not as much because, for one thing, Lily hated James.
She hated the way he thought he was more important than everyone, and that all the girls were in love with him. She hated the way he messed up his hair and how he always showed off the Snitch. He was Quidditch Seeker for Gryffindor and never missed an opportunity to fly his Snitch around and catch it; he likes being in the center of attention. She mostly hated the way he would hex anyone who annoyed him, just for the fun of it. No one deserved that.
Lupin and Lily arranged times to hang out a couple times a week, without James, Sirius, Sandra and Anna.
"Well, Lil, you know that the Halloween Ball is coming up next weekend, right?" Lupin asked her.
"Yeah! Its going to be so much fun!"
"Yeah, I think so too. But, I wanted to ask you. what color is your dress? You know, so that way I can match you." Lupin had asked Lily to the ball earlier in the week, since she was the only girl he really knew (and she was his best friend).
"Oh, I'm wearing a white dress." Lily had found that almost every other color clashed horribly with her red hair. Anna and Sandra convinced her to try on a white dress, and she fell in love with it.
"Ok, that's good. I think white matches with everything." Lupin said.
"Yeah, and it was the only thing that matched with my hair!" Lily joked. They both started laughing.
"Well, I promised James and Sirius that I'd go meet them. I'll see you later, Lily."
"Ok, bye Remeus."
