Author's Note: This is my first-ever drabble for everwood100 on LiveJournal. June 15's subject: fathers. In this the theme is on the subtle side, but I think it's there. Also, I only saw the episodes dealing with Kate's pregnancy and abortion once each, so I may not remember all the important details.
Daddy Departed

When Kate announced she was pregnant, Matt ran. He got tickets to Europe and hauled his ass out of Everwood before news spread, without regard for the tiny life that he'd helped create, or his young girlfriend whose life was destroyed. He thought only for his well-being.
Eventually, he relaxed in Europe, played some gigs, found pretty, fun-loving ladies. He could never have found this new adventure in Everwood.
He was playing piano for an adoring audience when Kate entered the hospital, and he was cozying up to a woman he'd just met when he ceased to be a father.
