No More

He was innocent,

Young and brave.

He was bold,

Headstrong and wise.

I never thought to ask,

Anything about his life.

He could be gone,

Never coming back.

We aren't friends,

Or so I never thought.

Why do I feel so powerless,

Powerless and sad?

Where did he go,

Just disappeared, gone?

Inwardly I beg,

For one more moment.

We're all preparing to mourn,

Then suddenly it happens.

He is spared,

But he will be different.

I will look out for him,

So much is changing.

He was just a boy,

Youthful and high spirited.

He doesn't know,

What is to come.

He is going to change,

Very rapidly at least.

He should be afraid,

Frightened and scared.

But his courage,

It flows still.

He bounced back quickly,

But he will never be the same.

If we get out of this,

He will no longer be,

The young farm boy,

So happy and free.
