The Vampire Princess - Prologue: My Story Begins

"Katrina Salem. 18 years old. 12th Grade at California Sweet Valley High." I read as I glanced at my Student ID, waiting for my best friend to call.
Katrina Salem, That's my name...for now. I've actually grown quite fond of this one. I've used it many times throughout the span of my life. Now I know that sounds a bit weird, people just don't seem to go around changing their names every few years, right? That's not a normal thing! Well, I'm not exactly a normal person! I'm a vampire and I'm over 5,000 years old!
I know what you're probably thinking: Yeah, right. A vampire. They only exist in fairy tales! And If I am a vampire, how can I be over 5,000 years old, a Senior at a high school and the age of 18?!
As I've said, I am a vampire. Vampires, unlike humans, are immortal, well to some extent. We can be killed, but we don't age and don't die of natural causes. We also have a DNA type different than humans. Our blood runs black. We have a venomous scent that only vampires have and only vampires can smell. We are super-humanly strong and have better sight and hearing than humans. Of course all of this evolves with age and length of vampirism.
How did I get to be a Vampire? You ask.
Well it's sort of a long story...
