Disclaimer: Scully's words are lyrics from an Evanescence song so they are obviously not mine and neither is Scully or Doggett. Never were, never will be.

This was the end. Scully knew it. Doggett knew it. They all knew it. After 2 ½ years of colonization and war they had finally been hit. The aliens had attacked the base where Scully and Doggett had been helping figure out the aliens plan and using anything they could find in the X- Files that could be helpful. But now it was over.

The fire caused by the explosion emitted thick, black smoke and gases; there was no hope for any of the people inside. Desperate to find her partner and her lover, Scully crawled on the floor calling his name. He called for her in reply. Guided by their voices, they found one another in the thick haze, coughing and gasping. Doggett collapsed onto his back, Scully onto his chest and they wrapped their arms tightly around each other. Their eyes locked, and Scully gave him a sad smile and lowered her head to give him a final kiss.

They parted and lay together on the warm concrete floor. Her lips touched his ear and she whispered her last words to him, "Hold onto me love.all I wanted to say is I love you and I'm not afraid. Safe inside myself are all my thoughts of you. I know you hear me, I can taste it in your tears," her voice became strained, "Say goodnight, don't be afraid, calling me-calling me as you fade to black." She gasped, "I love you." Blackness enveloped her and she barely heard him reply, "I love you forever." He felt her let out her last breath against his neck. Seconds later, his eyes closed as well, and then they both lay lost to the dead, wrapped in each other's arms.
