Loneliness
You were alone. Alone in the cell. How long had you been there? You did not know. You felt the cold metal bars against your back as you lay in the dark. Alone.
Where was everyone? You did not know. They could have been anywhere. But one thing you were sure. They were not with you. You hated yourself for what you felt you had done. It was your fault they were lost. They could have been sitting in a dark cell like you. All alone in the night.
Why had you brought them here? Stupidity and foolishness had led you on. This you were thinking in your mind but it could not help them. It could not help you.
You thought of him. Your friend. He would not blame you. He was probably alone like you. Maybe his face was scarred, his pride etched off by the cruelty of that place. His knowledge would not help him now. None of you. You were trapped. Alone.
You thought of her beautiful face. She was probably thinking right now. Thinking how to escape. But there was no way. Even her cleverness could not help you now. You were all apart. Apart from the people you loved.
You thought of him. He was a warrior. He was used to cruelty and harshness. Indeed his name meant strength. He was strong but never before had he encountered this. The pain. The suffering. And then the loneliness for hours back in the cell. None of you could have dreamed about this.
You leant your head against the cell. Trying to sleep. But that was impossible. The silence alone was enough to keep you awake. And then the memories. The memories of torture and anguish. The memory that you were alone.
