He pulled back the string of the bow, aimed, and released. A perfect score at archery. His father would be proud.
At this time, the king of Mirkwood rode up on a white steed.
He ran towards him, "Father! Father! I got a perfect score! What do you think?" he beamed.
The king looked down from his tall horse, "That's quite good my son, but you only have fifty years untill you reach age, and you still cannot shoot from an advancing position. It's only a start Haku." he said as he smiled down at his son.
Haku stopped smiling as his father rode away. His pride crushed by his own father. Most of the elf boys of his age could not shoot like him, but that wasn't good enough. Why must his father be so condesending towards him and then mock him with a smile. Nothing was good enough for him. Nothing. Ever.
He dragged himself to the caves of Mirkwood to wash up for supper.
------------
"I have an anouncement to make," said the king as he cleared his throught "I shall ride in a fortnight to the plains of the Rohirrum. I must see him in the matter of calvery. There I will also meet with some dwarves, for the Grand Cave is in need of restoration, and our arrows are in need of more stone." He sat himself down a the head of the long table of elves.
To the left of the king sat Queen Lilen. To the right of the king sat his son Haku. Next to Haku sat three more siblings; Haken, Haquienne, and Hacib. All the children of the King of Mirkwood, Protector of the Elves, The Representative of all Elven Race of the Companionship, a Savior of Middle-Earth, King Legalos Greenleaf. His four children had the same long flowing blond hair and beautiful brown eyes. Already at the age of 150, Haku stood at the same height as his father.
The king leaned over to Haku, "I would like you to accompany me to Rohan as I know that you enjoy the company of the people there. When I return from the mountains of the dwarves, I will ride back to Mirkwood with you. Is that of your liking?"
"Very much sir. My thanks." Haku replied, inwardly bursting with happiness.
"Excellent." he smiled "You should smile more my son." He said as the patted his son on the back. The king then went back to his wine and conversation with one of his merchants.
