What Made You Say That

Disclaimer: Three things you should know before attempting to sue me. I am not J.K. Rowling. I can not write songs. I know this. The song belongs to Shania Twain (the singer of aforementioned song), Tony Hasselden, Stan Munsey, Jr (the writers of the song), and Mercury Records (the record label Shania Twain recorded the song with). NOT ME! (Unfortunately.)

Author's Note: This story is a songfic to Shania Twain's song 'What Made You Say That'. The lyrics are denoted by the * symbol and italics.

*Maybe tonight I'm gonna tell him how I feel Maybe I'll leave well enough alone Maybe, just maybe, he'll want to be my baby What if he's got plans of his own*

Ginny snuck quietly out of her dorm. It was around midnight when, unable to sleep, she had decided to go for a walk to clear her head. If only she hadn't had that fight with Draco. She knew that they had barely been on speaking terms as it was but Ginny also knew that she had feelings for him, although what those feelings were was anyone's guess. She walked to the lake and was at the edge before she realised that there was another person already there. She turned to where Draco was leaning against the tree behind her. 'I'll just go then, shall I?' 'Suit yourself, it's not like I care.' Smarting at his steely remark, Ginny stubbornly stayed where she was.

*I'm waiting for the perfect moment Looking for the perfect phrase The one I finally choose is simply "I Love You" As the words came out I heard a voice inside me say*

Ginny sat on her rock, thinking of something to say to him. Finally, without at all meaning to, she blurted, 'I love you, Draco.'
Realising what she had just said, Ginny clapped a hand to her mouth and stared at her feet, not daring to look at him.

*What made you say that Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes What made you say that Have you been listening to your heart It's too late now, you don't want to take it back Cause I know love's What made you say that*

'What the hell made me say that?' Ginny thought to herself, looking at the stars and crescent moon reflected in the lake. Ginny knew it was too late to take anything back and, as she thought it over, she realised that she didn't really want to.

*I look up to see his reaction And a smile slowly spread across his face He said "What took you so long That's what I've been waiting on I thought you'd take forever and a day*

Ginny finally gained enough courage to look and see how Draco had reacted to her statement. To her surprise she saw a smile slowly forming across his face. 'Why didn't you say anything sooner? I'd been hoping you would say something like that, but I was beginning to doubt my chances of hearing you say anything this millennia.'

*What made you say that Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes What made you say that Have you been listening to your heart It's too late now, I won't let you take it back Cause I know love's What made you say that*

They sat silently together, until Draco quietly spoke up. 'You know I'm not going to let you take that back.' *What made you say that Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes What made you say that Have you been listening to your heart It's too late now, you don't want to take it back Cause I know love's What made you say that*

'I don't want to.' was Ginny's only reply.

*Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes What made you say that Have you been listening to your heart What made you say that*
