Hi my fellow readers! This is my first attempt at a Kenshin fanfic, and it's going to be a Kenshin/Battousai + Kaoru story. I can't quite predict how this will all turn out, i do have a great arc planned, but i'm an impulsive person, so the story might evolve in other patterns, depending on the comments and reviews. I'll scramble a couple original story facts, so please bear with me ;)

Disclaimer : I wish i did, but i do not own RK :(

Setting : The revolution has not ended yet, we are in the era of the Battousai. The streets resound with his kills and the fear he inspire. This story starts just before the arrival of Tomoe into his life, as in the OVA. However, Kenshin is a bit older, i'd say 18 or 19. Kaoru is around 16, almost 17. The others (Sano, Megumi etc.) are about the same age they were in the anime though.

' ' = thoughts " " = dialogue ***** ***** = dream sequence

Chapter 1 : flooded in blood

The figure moved with astonishing speed in the darkness, only a faint sound could be heard as the air was stirred. Graceful, the shadow dashed to one side and swiftly dissapeared into an alley. The moon continued to stare down on the surroundings, hazy and bright.

With light foot steps, the silhouette made its way into its lair, opening the wood panel silently as not to wake anyone. A few whispers echoed in the empty hall, then all was still. Eyes blazing gold, he walked upstairs, undetected, then entered the room he called his own. Amber turned slowly to lavander as he shed his clothes and splashed his face with lukewarm water, breathing ever so calmly.

Changing into a clean, unbloodied outfit exactly as his other, he took a seat in the corner near the window, not bothering with the futon, still against the wall. One leg stretched on the ground, a knee almost to his chin, he still grasped his weapon, seemingly confortable. Eyelids closing, he mused, head empty, as gray-hued fatigue took his mind and he fell asleep.

************************* He opened his eyes and found nothing. The whole space around him melted together until it was bland, devoid of color and substance. Floating into nothingness, his senses aware, he scanned all around. No emotion flared in his violet orbs, but inside, he felt strange.

Suddently, something liquid started to form a ground a few inches under his feet. Its texture seemed more thick than water, it was also opaque and glistening. The pool extended to the horizon, his feet lowered until he was ankle-deep into the red flow of blood. The pond stirred, bubbled, until a tendril rose from it, dripping, taking a humanoid shape with golden eyes. A bloody limb went off from it and raised toward the empty space that could have been a foggy sky, and liquid extended from it, forming a katana's blade. The golden-eyed golem made a swift move and pierced the dreamer's chest with its blood weapon. The man didn't think it would arm, until he felt cold steel impale his heart and darkness engulf him.

*************************

At the other side of Kyoto, in a candle-lit room, a slender feminine shadow moved toward the exit, making no sound, moving like a cat amiss the blackness. Her face hidden under a ninja mask, her sapphire eyes narrowed to unfold the barely moonlit street from its shadowy drapes. Bluis-hued ebony hair tied in a high ponytail, like most samurais, her gloved hand fell to the handle of her sword at her belt. Sighing, she jumped effortlessly over the nearest roof and ran, toward the center of the town, lips pursed under the mask, looking like a mere shadow over the black sky.

To be continued....

Please review, it's my first story posted on Fanfiction.net and i'd looooooooove to get comment. I know all of this ain't too clear and obvious right now, but it's unfold during the next two chapters, trust me!
