Night of Stars

It was a lazy day of late summer. The night was cool, and the sky was clear. Many stars shone brightly above, with no streetlights to obscure their glow. Anzu Mazaki and Yugi Mutou laid upon the soft, cold grass, and gazed up at the glimmering stars.
"The stars are beautiful, aren't they?" Anzu commented, looking over at Yugi.
"Yes, they are," Yugi agreed, nodding. For some reason, staring up at great burning balls of gas that were so very far away was quite relaxing to him. It gave him a peaceful feeling. Of course, he was with Anzu, and being with her made him content.
Anzu also felt relaxed. It had been a while since she had done something so lazy and calm like looking up at the stars. It was a welcomed change. And being with Yugi made it even better. Anzu was always happy when she was with him.
Yugi touched the golden Millennium Puzzle hanging from his neck. "What do you think of the future?" he asked as he sat up.
Anzu sat up as well. "I don't mind the future," she answered in a serene tone. "We have been through a lot lately, all thanks to your Millennium Puzzle, and it'll probably bring us even more trouble. But I don't mind, as long as I'm with you and our friends."
Yugi smiled. He liked Anzu's answer. She had always been one of his closest friends, even before he solved the Millennium Puzzle. She was very kind to him, and he couldn't imagine the future without her.
Anzu looked back up at the stars, and saw that they had grown slightly brighter. She had not been completely honest with Yugi about the future. Truth was, she was just the tiniest bit afraid of it. But with Yugi and her other wonderful and close friends, she felt safe and prepared for anything.
After minutes of a calm silence, Anzu gently slid her hand over Yugi's. "Don't you just love peaceful summer nights like this one?" she wondered, her pale blue eyes holding a wishful look.
"Yes," Yugi replied quietly, leaning against Anzu's shoulder. "But there are some things that I love more."
A shooting star then flew swiftly through the dark sky, making the other stars appear dim. Both Anzu and Yugi made a wish before the shooting star vanished out of sight.
"So what did you wish for?" Yugi asked Anzu.
"I'm not telling," Anzu said teasingly. "It's a secret."
Yugi grinned softly. "Well, so is mine."
Anzu's and Yugi's eyes met for a breathless moment, and their lips touched for a quick second. Anzu then brought Yugi lovingly into her arms while he rested his head on her shoulder.
Even though they had said their wishes were secret, they both had a pretty good idea of what the other had wished for. As the stars shone down upon them, they savored the peacefulness of their once-hidden feelings for each other.
