Irish Lullaby
A soft quite echoed through this particular household on this Halloween
night, but only to be broken by the sound of a baby crying. Lily Potter
once again stirred in her husbands arms. She arose from the bed and tip-
toed into her son's nursery. She picked up her weeping child and cradled
him in her arms. Lily loved her son more than words could say. Every time
she looked at his beautiful face her heart would overflow with love. She
would do anything for her little boy. Harry opened his almond shaped eyes and fixed them on his mothers face. He
stopped crying but still let out loud sobs. His dazzling emerald green
eyes, so breath taking and so like his mothers searched her face. Loving
eyes met with his and he was comforted, her red hair falling around her
face. She was his protector, his life, his mother.
Lily began to sing her favorite lullaby to her precious son.
"Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
too - ra - loo - ra - li,
too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
hush, now don't you cry-"
Lily remembered how her mother used to sing it to her. Harry snuggled up
against her chest and gripped on tightly to her night dress.
"Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral'
too - ra - loo - ra - li,
too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
that's an Irish lullaby."
She looked down at her sleeping child once again, the perfect child, so
loving, so beautiful. Lily wondered how she would ever live without her
sweet little Harry. She couldn't bear the thought of anything harm coming to him. With Voldemort on the loose she knew it would be difficult to keep
him safe. That is why they were in hiding. That is why her son's life was
endangered, because of him.
Baby Harry stirred in his mothers' arms, so Lily began to sing to him
again.
"Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
too - ra - loo - ra - li,
too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
hush, now don't you c-"
But she was broken off by the sound of a loud thump in the next room, followed by loud screams. She knew who it was. Harry was woken by the noise
and looked wide eyed at his mother. His questioning eyes staring at the
tears rolling down her cheeks and dripping forehead. But she gave no answer, but kept rocking him back and forth in her arms and
began singing to him again
"Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
too - ra - loo - ra - li,
too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
that's an Irish lullaby."
Lily lowered her head, kissed her baby Harry on the cheek and whispered "I love you" into his ear. She put him back into his cot and watched him drift
off into the land of dreams. Lily knew this would be the last time she
looked at his beautiful, peaceful face. The door flew open and in walked
the person who would take her life.
"Over in Killarney,
many years ago,
me mother sang a song
to me
in tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
in her good old Irish way,
and I'd give the world
if she could sing,
that song to me this day.
Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
Too - ra - loo - ra - li,
Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
Hush, now don't you cry
Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
Too - ra - loo - ra - li,
Too - ra - loo - ra - loo - ral,
That's an Irish lullaby."
A fifteen year old Harry Potter sang this song to himself in the dark.
