When he awoke it was to the pounding of rain against the ceiling. A chill struck him and his gaze was pulled like metal to a magnet, traveling swiftly to the large, round flat window as another stab of lightning pierced the breast of the night. Something obstructed the 360 degrees of view, he blinked and struggled to distinguish the dark form.

"You're awake." The figure that somehow lay upon the sill hardly shifted, only the slight tilt of the head that faced the rain, the shift of wet hair- curling slightly around a shadowed throat- and the rustle of perhaps clothing reached him.

"Who… Who are you?" He rasped, his throat producing a growl. There was no answer. The rain continued, like sand upon the roof. "What happened?" There was a cynical chuckle, the sound of more movement, and the form on his windowsill slipped silently to the floor. As it advanced slowly upon him the lightning tore again at the dark, and he thought he saw his crow flutter at the girl's breast. Yes, the girl, her thin, pale figure was obviously that of a female.

"You fell asleep." She said in a bittersweet voice, teeth clenched, as if it held some irony that he was too stupid to recognize. She stood above him, and then touched his forehead gently with only her fingertips. "But… I'm sure you're more interested in why I'm here…" Removing her hand abruptly, she returned to the window. Lightning again, the storm drew closer. She was wearing a very heavy down jacket, black, and something like black spandex leggings tucked into calf-high combat boots. The lightning left, and so did his view of the stranger.

"Who are you?" He repeated, also getting to his feet. He approached her quickly, but stopped short, something in the way she stood stopped him. Her familiarity was tangible, he could taste it and smell it, and it halted him.

"I don't have a name." She said softly, looking at him with eyes more strikingly blue than his own. In another illumination, her skin glowed ash-white, her hair a dark brown like his own. "I guess you can call me Black." Silence. The rain grew heavy. "Welcome back Eric."
