"If I fall back down, you're gonna help me back up again.
If I fall back down, you're gonna be my friend."
-Rancid
This is a different take on Haibane Renmei (Charcoal Feather Federation), looking in the mind of Rakka. HR has to be one of my new favorites. It's a story of liberation, and trying to face your fears, and live your dreams. It's a story with many universal themes that exist in the mind of an individual today. This new project I'm working on is my brave attempt at discovering these universal themes and emotions. I hope you enjoy this.

Poem 1:
The Way It Is: On Grounded Wings
Whenever I lie in my bed and close my eyes,
I dream the same dream.
It is the same dream that
I have been accustomed to.
I know this dream,
But I can't understand this.
I live this dream,
But I don't.
Because my visions that I see
When I am sleeping
Are only visions.
Could they happen? Perhaps.
Will they happen? Perhaps.
Must they happen? No.
But that's just the way it is.
Some things may never change,
While others do.
Dreams fall in that category.
For me, it never changes.
I vision myself
Falling from the sky.
I am falling towards
A person, a place, a thing.
I don't know where or who or what
I'm falling towards,
But I do know I'm falling.
I can't find the reason,
The auspices,
The ethos
Behind such a vision.
All I know is that...
I'm falling.
I don't know my name, either.
It is not the one that I was given
Without my consent.
I am not Rakka, one who is falling.
And then...
They say though, that what you see
In your visions is what your name will be.
I want to know who I am,
And when I do,
I will be more of a person.
What is an angel?
I never heard of the word "Angel."
I'm not a pure-hearted person.
I'm not a beacon of light
That is set to liberate those
Hearts that are desperate
For this thing called
Salvation.
I'm no angel.
But I am not an evil person.
I have wings,
But they are charcoal gray,
Not white as the purest snow.
I have a halo,
But I need help supporting it
Above my head.
I have good intentions,
But fear contaminates,
Even discourages,
Them from being carried out.
Fear is like a demon.
It comes down to rape you,
To desecrate you,
To strip you of your individuality,
Your courage, your composure,
Your determination.
These charcoal wings are grounded.
Because of fear of the unknown.
And yet, that ray of hope
That I see in my visions,
It prevents my wings from being grounded even more.
I want that ray to be a beacon.
I want to be that beacon.
I want to fly away.
I want to be liberated.
I want to leave this nest,
And live out the life I love,
Live out my dream.
I have yet to find the answer to my dream
As I learn to fly
On these grounded wings.
