Author's Notes: This is my first attempt at a story such as this, and I hope it is satisfactory. Very sad, but I like it, personally. I am also basically having this story focused on Lucy, so I'm just going to pretend that Eric never answered that door. This also might be a short story. I'm not sure.

Prologue: Secrets Formed

Lucy's breath caught in her throat as she held the pregnancy test in her trembling hand, waiting for the results that would change her life. She waited for what seemed like hundreds of years.

Two blue lines appeared on the test. A mix of emotions rushed inside Lucy.

She was pregnant…

No, no…she couldn't be pregnant. Not now. She was still in school, and she was still a newly wed. This wasn't happening…

Lucy reached her hand out to steady herself on the sink.

"Luce? You here?"

It was Kevin's voice. She couldn't face Kevin. Not yet, at least. She was still letting the feeling that she was preg- She couldn't even say it to herself, not the actual word.

"Yes, I'm…just using the bathroom," she responded in a dry, hoarse voice. "I'll be out in a minute."

She grabbed the box of her pregnancy test, stuffing the test in it and ripped it to shreds, to dispose of the evidence. She grabbed the plastic bag she had it in, and stuffed it into the trashcan, hiding it behind the toilet.

And then she prepared to face Kevin.

Slowly, she opened the back door, it creaking and causing Kevin to turn around. He smiled, but the smile vanished at the sight of Lucy.

Did he already know? No. That was impossible.

"You okay, Lucy?" he asked.

"I'm…" Shocked. Terrified. About to be a parent. "Fine."

"You looked flushed." He pressed his cold hand on her warm cheek; somehow, it soothed Lucy.

"I thought you were going to the pool hall," she whispered quietly.

Kevin frowned. He must have known something was wrong with Lucy. But would he guess?

"I decided to come home and turn in early. What about you? You want to stay with me tonight?" The grin crept back on his face.

"No," declined Lucy just a little too fast. Kevin looked puzzled. "I mean, I do, but I have to go out and meet someone tonight."

"Who are you meeting? Roxanne?"

"Yes. That's it, I'm going to meet Roxanne." Thanks for the suggestion, Kevin.

"Okay…you sure you're okay?"

Lucy forced a smile. "Just fine. I'll see you later."

She went over to the chair Kevin was standing by now to get her coat, and Kevin lowered down to kiss her. For some reason, Lucy dodged his lips, and he kissed her forehead.

He knew something was wrong with her. He always did.

But he would never know what it was, Lucy decided. He just couldn't.

Final Author's Note: This was short, being as it was a prologue, but regular chapters should be longer. Hope you enjoyed and continue reading.
