A/N inspired by a conversation with my friends.. They thought I was mad to
run outside at 9:40pm on the first day of spring to be in the rain. I
wanted to write about rain and this is what came out.. Was listening to
Hayley Westenra's song "Wuthering Heights" download it and read the book
first. it's amazing
"Penelope!!! Are you out here?"
A figure slipped behind a nearby tree, pale in the clouded moonlight except for the drapery of black Hogwarts robes and the mess of dark curls that framed her waxen face as she waited for her seeker to disappear out of sight. Penelope Clearwater did love her boyfriend, but she wanted to be alone. The rain drizzled around her and water drops stuck to her eyelashes, it was the first rainfall of spring and there was nowhere else she'd rather be then in it. Goosebumps graced her arms but she cared not for their presence, her wet robes embraced the curves of her body but she walked on, blissfully aware of nothing except the droplets of water that surrounded her and the night that hung heavy with rain clouds.
She tipped her head back and closed her eyes, wet tendrils of hair clung to her face and neck like fingers as she raised her arms to make a cross, casting away everything that kept her down- worry about school, prefect duties.Percy. The smell of earth and jasmine mingled together and added to the euphoric bliss that held her for a moment, the first rainfall of spring came but once a year. And she never missed it. She whispered softly to the night around her, she wasn't a child of the sunlight, her skin burnt and she was perpetually pale from spending her days hidden away in the library, but at night. Night made her feel alive. Shivers ran through her, not just from the cold but her soul shivered and chills travelled through her like lightening.
Arms wrapped around her from behind and she collapses back into the embrace.
"Penelope - you'll catch your death"
Percy's concerned voice awoke her from the ethereal daydream that trapped her and she opened her eyes to look up at him. Her lips slipped into a soft smile as her dark eyes met his and it broadened as a raindrop ran down his cheek and dripped silently from the tip of his nose to her forehead. She twisted in his arms, his somewhat dry body becoming sodden with excess water from her robes, her lips - meeting his as she pulled him down towards her were as cold as stone and the sensation enthralled them both into silence. As their lips parted their gazes locked and rain ran down her cheeks like tears, cold and bitter but full of warmth to come. The rain fell on around the young lovers, ignorant to the spell it weaved that caught them both in its web.
A crack of lightning struck in the distance and the rolling thunder shattered the moment with its harsh interjection. Releasing her Gryffindor beau from her arms, he clasped her hand and together they retreated to shelter. Refuge was taken beneath the canopy of one of the oldest and less fatal willows that edged the Lake shore, Percy fell back against the tree trunk and drew Penelope towards him, wrapping his arms once more around as the curtain of soft green leaves wavered in the wind around them, the peace that had been to calming before was giving away to a violent storm and it was imperative they return to the castle as soon as possible. When Percy spoke thus, Penelope raised her fingers to his lips to hush him-
"Percy not now, we will survive a few moment more"
-"But Penny-"
"Not now Perc"
-And with that the argument was sealed with a kiss and the willow seemed to smile down at the youthful pair that sunk to the cool earth in a torrent of kisses, the night closing in around their lovers embrace.
