Chapter 1: Love Buds

"Tomoyo-chan! They posted the schedules for this rotation!" Sakura announced excitedly, "I want to see if you're in my class this time."
Tomoyo laughed at her friend's fervor, "Alright Sakura-chan, I'm coming!"
They joined the crowd milling around the bulletin board. Tomoyo quickly scanned the boards looking for either Sakura's or her names. Tomoyo was happy to see that she was in Art but the prospect of going into Gym again turned that happiness quite sour. This turn around they had Track and Field which meant the dreaded 800 kilometer run. Looking at the full list of her classes, she noticed that none of her friends were in the art class thinking, 'well, I guess I'll be sitting alone again,' but she was happy to see that Sakura and Chiharu were all in her Gym class.
Sakura sighed, "I have Spanish and then gym again."
"Sakura-chan, at least we will be in Gym together."
"That's true Tomoyo-chan…"
"Besides, there's always Li-kun to torment. We might actually be able to find out if he likes Meiling-chan," Tomoyo didn't notice however, how Sakura's eyes lit up at the mention of Li's name but her face fell during the second part of her sentence.
They both sat down with their friends and fell into their normal lunchtime routine with all of their other friends. Rika was sketching while Suzumi was studying for a science quiz with Tomoyo who had both forgotten about it. Meiling was eating while reading one of Naoko's manga books and quizzing Sakura on vocabulary for her reading class. This was the normal scene with them and amid all the activity, they still held small conversations.
"What do you need to determine speed?"
"Are Keitaro and Naru going to be together in the end?"
"The distance and time of the motion."
"Right"
"Why would I ruin the ending for you?"
"Do you have a date for Farewell?" called a voice from another table.
"Well, I'm trying to get …." Shika replied.
"Why do these people care about the dance? It's just a social like the rest of them." Tomoyo added between answers, "I'll probably end up wearing my show choir outfit and sit in the hall reading Artemis Fowl."
"Can I borrow it after you're done?"
"Oh no, Meiling-chan. You'll be very busy at the dance with Li-kun!" Tomoyo laughed.
"Haha, very funny," She muttered.
"Let's get off that topic," Sakura smiled, "We're going to Hershey park this weekend! I wonder what place the Chorus will get, 30th?
"No, I think the chorus won't even get a place, we'll be kicked out of the running because we're so bad." Rika added still absorbed in her sketch.
The lunch bell rung and everyone went off on their separate ways.
