Melancholy Wedding Guest
I know I'm not supposed to be here
Witnessing this joyous private event
But I cannot stay away
This is my goodbye
To the only woman I have ever loved
And to share in her wedding day
May ease my pain
And soothe my mind and soul
I have to see her happy
And full of life
I have to know that she's all right
So I can begin to heal
I smile as I watch her walk down the aisle
Unaware of my presence high above
I slowly close my eyes and just listen
As she declares her love of Raoul to God and man
My eyes remain closed as the ceremony ends
And they kiss
A kiss that starts a new life
Far, far away from me
I sit in the empty church balcony
Long after they have left together
So happy and in love
Until my tears no longer come
And as I venture out into the familiar night
I am once again comforted by the darkness
Just like in the past
As I once again become just another lost soul
I know I'm not supposed to be here
Witnessing this joyous private event
But I cannot stay away
This is my goodbye
To the only woman I have ever loved
And to share in her wedding day
May ease my pain
And soothe my mind and soul
I have to see her happy
And full of life
I have to know that she's all right
So I can begin to heal
I smile as I watch her walk down the aisle
Unaware of my presence high above
I slowly close my eyes and just listen
As she declares her love of Raoul to God and man
My eyes remain closed as the ceremony ends
And they kiss
A kiss that starts a new life
Far, far away from me

Long after they have left together
So happy and in love
Until my tears no longer come
And as I venture out into the familiar night
I am once again comforted by the darkness
Just like in the past
As I once again become just another lost soul
