Professor Snape sat at his desk, marking yet another solecism from the pile of seventh year essays, when a slight figure moved into the doorway.
"Potter," he said, jerking his head to gesture the boy inside. Harry closed and locked the door behind him. Harry posed for a moment before Snape noticed that he had a green and silver bow around his neck.
"Happy birthday!" the boy announced cheerily, and approached him.
"I'm not actually your real present," Harry murmered into Snape's ear, following his words with a string of long, hot kisses down his neck.
"Oh?"
"Oh indeed." Harry grinned, and produced a roll of parchment, also wrapped in ridiculous ribbon. "You'd better appreciate this, it took me forever."
"What?"
"It's my potions essay. Read it."
With some trepidation, Snape removed the ribbon and flattened the parchment against the pile of assignments on his desk. His eyes scanned the writing.
"Hexenmannchen," he read aloud, "euphorbia, vervain, linden... combination of the elements... protection... Who helped you write this?"
"I did it all by myself. Why, is it bad?"
Severus' eyes narrowed, and a slow smile crept across his face. He stood up to kiss Harry's mouth.
"It's perfect." He sounded incredulous.
