Brave new World chapter 2
After 5th period, her and his free she noticed, was art. Classes. too much thought. She liked Art- people tended to focus on symbolism, letting her have an inside look into her classmate's personalities. Drawing and Design. The tables were covered in paint stains from 5th period, who had a different teacher. But 1rst period was a geometry class- her teacher wouldn't let them leave the tables messy.
The boy- Kirk, she found out his name was- sat at a table in front center, so Gabriella sat as his seatmate. They were told by the teacher to draw each other- without looking at the paper. So, they tried.
"You've put my ear on top of my nose again." She remarked.
"Shush, I'm focusing. And besides, you've got my eyebrow in my hair."
"At least I GAVE you hair!"
"Your hair looks like this." Scribble scribble.
"Does not! Yours looks like this."
"My ears aren't that big!"
"Neither is my nose!"
By the end of the period, they were laughing at each others drawings. Gabriella felt almost like she'd known Kirk forever. Or at least met him before. and she could tell he wasn't repulsed by her clothes. She didn't have to read his mind to find out- though of course she did. She'd had no training, after all. He seemed to be getting angry at the bad drawing, but laughing about it on the outside. She liked him- he was probably the first nice person she could remember.
Well, the first that had STAYED nice, anyhow. All her other friends dumped her once they found out she was. special. She prayed he would still like her once he found out, while at the same time knowing this was impossible. Hatred stemmed from fear, and people fear the unknown. It was only a matter of time. She swore to keep it a secret this time, to never let anyone know ever again.
