Oh! Dear Meriadoc,

Closer to me than any brother,

Death has taken you at last.

Hidden behind the lines of

Worry and Care,

Your Youth has shone through.

Your fingers, lifeless and cold;

Color has drained from your noble face.

Tonight, the night will end darker,

The sun will shine lesser,

Shadows of time will hide your face,

While you lie in your bed.

Remember those days in the lush green of the Shire?

The days before the Ring's fate took us on this journey?

I do.

We have been through it all, together…

Both have seen Death.

Life.

War.

Victory.

Our life has been good.

We are old Hobbits now,

Our children will now see brighter days.

I do not cry,

I knew your life was ending,

So is mine.

Wait for me, brother.

I will know when the pain is gone and

Darkness shrouds over me,

Light will blind me,

The cold numbness will warm me once again.

And we will lie down together,

And live, better than before.

Sleep, but do not wake,

Dear Meriadoc.
