Of Raven and Gothmog

So it was that Raven appeared amidst the battle. She ran to the front and passing a contingent of orcs. She made her way to the thickest of the fight. Alas she found a hill atop which she could use. Removing her shroud, she issued a challenge to the Lord of the Balrogs. "Come out Gothmog, or will you cover in fear behind your army?" She spat the words with malice in them and her eyes squinted to see the horizon for his coming. Then in an open patch of field, a great haze of smoke and flame spurted up from the ground. Raven adjusted herself and drew her sword. The Lord of the Balrogs came forth in mist of molten rock that danced off him like Rain. Gothmog's eyes narrowed on Raven and in a low commanding, chilling voice, he spoke. "By the blade of my axe you shall fall whore of Azareth." The great demon lurched forward and swung his axe to the ground.

Long they fought. The battle raged about them, one side sweeping the other back only to be faced by a counterattack and repulsed. Yet in all this, one fight stood above the rest. Raven sorceress of Azareth dueled with Gothmog, Dark Lord of Middle Earth. Long would people sing a psalm of that fight. Raven the fair, who stepped forth to challenge the might of evil. Her blade blocking each blow from the great black axe, wielded by her foe. Then dodging and seeking her target and thrusting her sword deep into the molten liquid below the floating plates that covered Gothmog. She did this thrice and caused him much pain, roaring and bellowing but he still came on. She threw a spell upon him, which smothered his flames. The balrog's light died and Gothmog moved not. Victory was at hand for the battle weary women. She whipped the sweat from her brows and forehead and dropped her sword to the ground. Gothmog's fury had been stifled. His orcs now witnessing the defeat of their master routed and ran in confusion for their lives.
But n arrow whined through the air and struck Raven in the thigh. She let out a gasp of pain and fell to her knees. Then all were horrified as the great demon moved again. Flames sprang anew from his mane and a great heat filled the air.
Raven stood to her feet and faced Gothmog in defiance. With a bellowing roar of vengeance Gothmog flung his axe through the air.
Raven of Azareth lay dead. Slain by the Dark Lord.
