Lana scanned the room for Clark. Finally, Lana found him. Clark was
standing by the doorway to the hall, and some girl was standing behind him,
her head bowed, fiddling with the buttons on her black cardigan. Clark was
looking directly at Lana and when her gaze met his, he smiled.
That smile. Those eyes. That face. "Come here," Lana mouthed at him, waving her hand. Her heart sped up as Clark began walking toward her. He looked better than she remembered, much better.
Clark's heart was beating even faster than hers. "Hey, you," Lana breathed when Clark hugged her. He smelled just like he always smelled. Like the cleanest, most delicious boy alive. Tears came to Lana's eyes and she pressed her face into Clark's chest. Now she was really home.
Clark's cheeks turned pink. Calm down, he told himself. However, he couldn't calm down. He felt like picking her up and twirling her around and kissing her face over and over. "I love you!" he wanted to shout, but he didn't. He couldn't.
Brooke walked over to Clark grabbed his hand. "Lana, this is Brooke." Clark said. "His girlfriend." She added.
Lana smiled but inside she was hurting. "Hi Brooke, I'm Lana Lang." Lana replied.
"So this is the famous Lana Lang. Clark talks about you all the time." Brooke said looking at Clark then Lana.
"He does, does he." Lana nudged Clark with her elbow. Clark smiled at Lana and then shrugged his shoulders.
"Clark, we should head back, before it gets too late." Brooke said grabbing Clark's hand.
"Yeah. Well Lana, I guess till next time." Clark replied looking at Lana then Brooke. Brooke and Clark walk out of the party but Brooke looked back and smiled at Lana.
"You won the battle but not the war." Lana whispered as she smiled back.
