The Unwelcome Acquaintance
Aly Stone
A cloak of darkness sweeps over me,
And I know that once again my
Unwelcome acquaintance has come.
Despair wraps me in his cloak and buttons
The front, then draws up the hood, suffocating
Me in the pitch-black darkness.
I begin to realize I am once again at the
Mercy of despair, the one thing on Earth
That has utter control.
Slowly Despair's traits sink into my skin -
Feeling cold, depress, not worth
Anything.
There is nothing I can do,
And I become smothered in these traits,
Unable to breathe.
Until I see a light, a friendly hand,
Reaching out to pull me free of the
Clutches of despair.
I am Free.
