Sydney leaned against the closed door and grimaced in pain as she held her shoulder.

"What's wrong?" Nigel asked, concern on his face.

"I think Jones dislocated my shoulder."

"Let's see." Nigel placed his fingers gently to her shoulder, wincing as she flinched. Sydney's shoulder was swollen and obviously out of place. "We should get you to a doctor."

"Don't be silly, Nigel." Sydney took a deep breath. "You're going to pop it back into place."

"What?" He stared at her. "That's insane." She glared at him. "Well, really." Nigel ran a hand through his hair. Damn but she was stubborn.

"I need it fixed, Nigel. This door isn't going to hold them back forever." The door rattled in agreement as something heavy thudded against it.

"I don't know the first thing about relocating a shoulder!" he protested. Sydney stared at him with the look she favoured when they both knew she was going to win. "Sydney," he whined.

"Nigel." Her voice was even. "Have I ever asked you to do something you couldn't?"

There was a "yes" on the tip of his tongue but honesty held him back. Did she ask him to do things he didn't think he could in a million years? Yes. Did he somehow manage to do them? Yes. "No," he admitted reluctantly.

"Put your hand here," she directed him. Prepared for his touch as she was she couldn't help the stiffness in her body as she braced for more pain. "Good. Your other one on the back. And you're going to just press it back into place." Sydney gritted her teeth. This wasn't the first time she had been the victim of a dislocated shoulder, but she didn't relish the feeling.

"I can't," Nigel said tersely, and he backed away from her.

"Yes you can Nigel." There was another thud on the door. Sydney looked at him expectantly.

Nigel gulped but replaced his hand on her shoulder, the other one behind. He took a deep breath and pushed.

Sydney let out a cry of pain. "Harder," she demanded. The pressure on her shoulder increased and the pain was building. She knew Nigel was holding back, but she also knew that she wouldn't be able to run nearly as fast or be able to fight with her shoulder out of place as it was. "Nigel."

Nigel took a deep breath and shoved her shoulder back into place.

Sydney swore and Nigel jumped back, certain he had done something wrong and had hurt her more than she had been. But Sydney simple rolled her shoulders and stood up.

"That wasn't so bad, was it?" she asked him.

The irony that she had been the one in pain and was asking him when all he had done was shove her body back into place wasn't lost on him.
