"Yami! Hide in your closet, and don't come out until we say so!" My mother said to me loudly as a loud banging repeated on the front door. Before I had the chance to run, they reached for their Pokéballs as the door was busted down by a Perrserker and their trainer. A large man with a sack in their arms reached for a pistol and aimed the trigger at my father, switching the aim between the two of my parents.
"I know who you both are, and if any of you want to come out of this alive, you'll do what I say" They glanced around, before fixating his gaze upon me and clicked his tongue as Perrserker grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and dragged me to the man. His sinister glaring eyes shone with despair at my parents, and especially me as he lifted me up and pointed his weapon at my head. It felt as if they would shoot any second. And eventually, he spoke again
"Both of you, drop your Pokéballs and back away from them... Perrserker! Metal sound!" He called out as their claws scratched at themselves, creating an echoing screech that caused both of my parents to drop to their knees, holding their ears in pain. I seemed to have a different reaction as I began to scream loudly, the house seemingly began to shake as picture frames began to crack. When Perrserker became louder, so did I with the tremors becoming that much more powerful. In an attempt to silence me, he pulled the trigger, however, he barely grazed my cheek just before his Pistol shattered, and the man yelped in pain with his arm lying limp. Due to this, I was dropped onto the floor with blood pooling from a large cut. Perrserker took a moment to stop and ensure its trainer's safety. Using this my mother released a Pokémon from its ball with her partner, Butterfree lifting them up with their mind and throwing them against the wall to cause them to fall unconscious. My parents quickly rushed to me, my mother holding me while my father rushed for bandages. Later that night, the police began to appear to take the man and Perrserker while another spoke to my parents about what had happened as it seemed that the burglar's arm had been broken in multiple different bones.

"I'd like you to meet Yami" A female began to say as they introduced me to an adult and three teenagers, one older teenager, likely sixteen or seventeen. The other two looked to be twins, one male, one female. Both appeared to be twelve. I could already tell they thought ill of me, without even reading their minds I had felt their gaze of judgment. But, just to be certain, I read their minds anyways. I knew it was considered a violation of privacy, but I had only done so when I felt it was important to know.
"This is the new recruit? Those arms don't look like they could do anything!" The oldest one began to think.
"What's with the headphones? Is he listening to something? Wonder what it is" The second one thought, they were similar looking to the last one, despite one being female and the other a male. I believe they were twins
"Something about him looks familiar... I don't believe he's a celebrity...Perhaps related to one? I think he's related to a gym leader, but which one was it?" The last one tried to remember where he had seen my face.
"Well, we'll happily accept him! It's nice to meet you, Yami, call me Neku. These are your new team, please introduce yourselves"
"It's Suki, nice to meet you..." The oldest said
"Unlikely," I thought as the male began to introduce themselves.
"Hey! Call me Terra!"
"And that leaves me! It's Sora!"
I guess they expected me to give a response, though I didn't see a reason to.
"I apologize...He takes a bit to warm up to others"
"That's quite alright, well come along then, Yami. We'll show you where your dorm is"
I had to share a room, but luckily I had my own side of the room where I could keep my stuff. One side was tidy, nearly untouched. The other however wasn't filthy, perse. Rather it was simply unorganized. Clothes and comic books were scattered on the floor, the bed was sloppy, and posters were nearly peeling. Overall it was a bit of an eyesore, but nothing worth complaining about.
"Sorry 'bout the mess, I guess... Didn't think we needed a fourth. I hadn't expected others." I nodded before setting my bag down on the unaccompanied bed.
"What's with the 'phones?" Suki asked though I kept myself focused on unpacking
"Sensitive ears," I responded with a slight glance.
"A'ight, well if you need anything, ask someone else" I could already tell, she didn't like me, though I did not care much whether or not people liked me, wasn't my problem.

"Alright, everyone! You've got your next mission! Yami, don't feel pressured if you feel that you cannot keep up" I gave a nod, though wasn't quite paying attention. "Okay then, we've received reports of a few Pokémon going missing in a nearby town...Reports say that one by one they seemed to walk away and attacked their trainers if they tried to stop them"
"Pokémon running from their homes and suddenly becoming hostile...Likely the cause of hypnosis or mind control... Based on the pattern, I would assume a pokémon like Malamar or Espeon. Powerful enough to control them, but likely can't control large crowds" I thought to myself.
"But why would Pokémon just suddenly desert their trainer? It doesn't make sense!" Sora exclaimed while Terra added on to it
"I understand sometimes Pokémon can dislike humans, but why would they just leave all of a sudden, and why all at the same time!?"
"Could it be something that attracts them?" Suki asked, beginning to formulate mental notes.
"At least she's smarter than she looks... If I were to guess, she came to the same conclusion if not a similar one..." I thought to myself before asking "Are the disappearing Pokémon similar in any way?"
"It didn't appear to be so, but we should investigate anyways"
"Right!" Said the rest of the group as I nodded, planning out any contingency plans possible, especially ones if my secret were to be revealed. Albeit, that possibility was minuscule.

Once entering the town, it seemed nice enough, people were getting along, and a few still had their Pokémon. However, most of the ones remaining were Psychic based Pokémon such as a Psyduck and Espeon.
"Thank Arceus you're here! We can't afford to lose another friend..." It seemed to be the mayor of the town.
"I see, what have you learned so far?" Neku asked
"They strike every other night, and take a Pokémon from different houses"
"Understood, have you taken records of the Pokémon that went missing and which houses they lived in?"
"Yes, of course!" He handed him a sheet of paper that I quickly scanned and took note of. Just as I suspected, they were all non-psychic type Pokémon. And they seemed random occurrences.
"I'm not really seeing any kind of connection... Suki, you see anything?"
"It's difficult to determine... Perhaps it's something attracting them away?"
"It's possible. Many of the Pokémon that went missing was shown to be incredibly friendly beforehand.
"No...They're likely being hypnotized or put under mind control" I quietly explained
"Huh? What do you mean?" Neku asked.
"My family is known for Psychic-Type Pokémon, as such, I know a lot about them. Such as that Pokémon each have a specific mix of auras, however Psychic-Type and Psychic based Pokémon have an aura that repels certain mind-altering attacks, and if you look around you, most of the Pokémon remaining have some kind of psychic capability"
"Oh! That's it! I can't believe we didn't think of that!" The Mayor said ecstatically "Might I know your name, young Ranger?" He asked though I stayed silent.
"Oh, I apologize, he doesn't talk often. Truthfully that's the most I've ever heard him speak. His name is Yami"
"Yami, I thank you for your input!" I gave a light nod before tossing up a Pokéball with a Butterfree appearing. While considered weak, my family had learned and passed down knowledge of how to awaken their true power. As such, at a young age, we would catch a Caterpie and raise it to be our partner. Despite this we still held expertise on most Psychic-type Pokémon, some parts having psychic abilities themselves, although it was rare.
"Butterfree, I think there's a Pokémon kidnapping others, can you detect their location?" I asked, telepathically although to others it may have just appeared as if I had simply pointed upwards as Butterfree began to fly away.
"What was that?" Terra asked.
"Surveillance, Butterfree's aura should protect it"
Soon enough, Butterfree returned before responding with their findings.
"I understand. They're in the east?"
"Yeah! I saw them head that way, it was a Malamar, and three trainers!"
"Understood, we'll plan an ambush," I thought to Butterfree then returned them to their Pokéball.
"So, Yami, what did Butterfree find out?" Neku asked.
"They're out east, three men and a Malamar. It would be best to split up among the houses without a psychic type and plan an ambush."
"I see... You certainly are a Psychic master! You and Butterfree are a perfect match!"
"Thanks..."

The four of us split up, I went to the house I felt would most likely be attacked as I personally would be the best one to fight them, especially when they were weak to Butterfree's Bug-type attacks.
Once it was midnight, I had already noticed their presence, Malamar was here, but they weren't alone. Just as I predicted. The owner of the house had a Kangaskhan, which on its own is a powerful Pokémon. Naturally, they wouldn't dare come alone.
"What the!? Who are you supposed to be?" A man asked glancing around for the family who lived there.
"That...Doesn't concern you" I waved my arm as Butterfree struck against Malamar, nearly making it faint with Bug Bite.
"Heh...So you're not the average trainer, but if I cannot defeat you, then I'll simply have to do what I came to do..."
"Really...And what would that be?"
"Acquire workers for the boss's factory, since you're going to be one anyways, might as well let you know your future! Malamar, use hypnosis!"
It began speaking in a hypnotic rhythm, if I had been an ordinary child, I wouldn't have even begun to resist. However, as a Psychic, I would feel the impulses of control leaving my grasp, but I could resist long enough to defeat them. I gave one last arm wave as Butterfree finished the job and used Arial Ace as it collapsed.
"T-that's not possible! No human can resist Malamar's hypnosis, what kind of headphones are those!?"
I began lifting up my hand as the man began to float. Next swinging my arm towards the floor as his back impacted it and then thrust my palm forwards, which made him slide against the floor until hitting his head on the wall. Finally, I knew I would have to get information about him, which meant I would have to use a false reality. It was a difficult technique, but one I understood how to use. It attacks the mind to cause delusions which makes the victim feel as if they were being torn apart. Their scream of bloody murder had not fazed me, however, it alerted the others, to which I had stopped before they saw me, and I just put my hands in my pockets while standing casually to hide evidence of my psychic abilities.
"Yami! We heard a scream, are you oka-...W-wait you're unharmed? And what happened to them?" Neku asked with Suki following behind.
I didn't say anything and just yawned.
"T-t-t-that kid i-is a m-m-monster!" The man was crying and shivering, sweating buckets as he felt almost as if he was broken down, piece by piece.
"Yami...Wh-what did you do?" Neku asked
"His Malamar used torment and missed, but Butterfree used Mirror Move, and the trainer got caught in it"
"O-oh..." They seemed almost relieved, I don't understand why, I would only do it to a criminal. The only thing is, that kind of technique took a lot out of the user, I felt dizzy and fell to my knees.
"You a'ight?" Suki asked as I shook my head to refocus myself
"I'm fine..."
"We'll try and interrogate him, can you walk?"
I nodded, though found it difficult to find my footing and fell over. "S-sorry... Guess I didn't avoid the Torment myself" It wasn't the truth, but I hoped they would believe it.
"You didn't? How come you aren't as harmed?" Neku asked while Suki gave a skeptical look.
"Oh...Um...Let's just say I've experienced worse... I'd prefer not to bring it up"
"Oh...Yes, I read about that in your file. That must have been traumatic... Suki, can you help him back?"
" Yeah, I got it. C'mon"

"You're hiding something...Aren't you" I knew to stay silent, even as she helped me walk.
"Listen...I don't care what it is, but just know, if you even attempt to hurt my team...I will end you" I didn't even need to enter her mind or look in her eyes to tell she was serious.
"You...You really care about them, don't you?"
"I do. They were there for me even when I wasn't there for myself. I might act distant, but they're the most important to me..."
"You...You're right, I am hiding something...But my distance is due to that difference... I'm...I'm a Psychic..."
"Psychic, huh? Can't say I'm familiar with them... So then I assume what happened to that man was your doing?"
"Yes. I use my mind to create a false reality that attacks them from their fears. However, it strains my body as well..."
"I see, but...Why are you telling me this?"
"You said it yourself, you'll do anything to protect those you care about, which is why I felt you should be aware of my gi-...Difference. I wanted you to know, I want to help people, but I distanced myself as my ability is difficult to control."
"Are you that powerful?"
"I restrain myself...But yes...When I was much younger, a burglar broke into my home, his Pokémon began using Metal Sound and caused a reaction from me...Somehow my powers had not only broken his pistol, but it shattered every bone in his arm"
"Neku mentioned something about trauma, was that what it was?"
"Yes, but the police only kept a record of the attempted burglary, nothing about my abilities"
"I see, and that scar, same incident?"
"Yes, the bullet barely grazed me, but still left a scar" I could feel that she was afraid of me, although only slightly.
"I understand, but hey, at least you're on our side"
"Yes...That is true, I suppose. May I ask one last favor?"
"Sure, what is it?"
"What I told you, could you keep it between us... People tend to fear that which they do not understand"
"I'm aware, but I've got my own secrets, won't tell a soul" She smiled, and I felt as if she was truthful.
"Oh, and for the record. Psychic types don't typically need strong arms"
"Huh?"
"Earlier, you had thought that I was too weak to be helpful"
"Y-you heard that!?"
"Yes."
"Hey! That is a huge violation of my privacy!"
"I had not trusted you, It was for my own protection"
"Really? Are you sure you weren't just reading my mind because I'm a girl?"
"Don't flatter yourself. I have no interest in others, attractively or romantically."
"Wow...You really can't take a joke, can you" Though I did not show it, I was embarrassed and didn't respond.

"Suki! Yami! Is everything okay? We got really worried when Neku left and told us to stay put"
"Yeah! Everything's fine, Yami actually took one of them down by himself!" "Her attitude and tone seemed to change, she's acting like a different person now," I thought to myself before remembering that she does everything she can to protect them. I guess if you pretend everything's alright, people believe your facade. I will have to keep note of that.

"Mornin' Everyone!" Neku called out walking into our room with the twins in tow. They were still in their pajamas, which were designed with colored Pokéball-like symbols though they kept moving, likely to get dressed or brush their teeth.
"After talking with some other rangers, we've learned of one of their bases and released all the Pokémon taken captive. That man was taken into questioning, but he seemed insistent that you not be brought into it. Whatever you did had terrified him" I didn't respond. Suki might have taken the news better than most, but there was no telling how they might react if I told them the truth. "What exactly did you do to him?"
"Didn't he already tell you? His Butterfree used Mirror Move on their Torment attack" Suki came to my defense before I had said anything, which I appreciated.
"Well yeah...But I still find it odd that you weren't as affected"
"It's not my fault. If he's unable to face his fears, that's not my problem"
"Face his fears?"
"Torment uses mind games to attack the mental weaknesses of the target. For him, his weakness was his fear. I don't have many, so I was not as harmed. No Pokémon trainer should call out moves if they aren't prepared to face the move themself"
"That...That's kind of cold to say" Neku stated "Is there something he's hiding? Just being in his presence is terrifying... What kind of overwhelming aura does he possess?" He shivered, though only slightly.
"For the record, I wouldn't have told Butterfree to use Mirror Move if it was a normal trainer," I responded, hoping to calm his nerves a bit. "I only acted the way I did as he was a criminal"
"Yes, I suppose you have a point, but we're to bring them justice, not stoop down to their level!"
"Very well. I'll use better judgement in the future."
