I do NOT own the names of any "The Giver" characters. They belong to the
another Lois Lowry
The Giver
25
Jonas listened to the sound. He embraced it, felt his spirit lift.
He was no longer on a sled or hill. He was neither cold nor tired. He was
lost in the thought of music. Then as the sled slowed down it came to an
end. He sat on the sled, even though it had stopped. Waited hoping for
more music, praying, pleading for more but none came.
He lifted himself from the sled looking at red blue and yellow lights. He
felt that he should take the sled with him. He grabbed the sled and
continued on and as he walked memories that the giver had given him left.
One by one with each step he took toward the light. As he made it threw
the trees he saw buildings. They were nothing likes what he had ever seen
before.
He saw a road and as he took one step onto it he was in a new world that he
community thought never could be he lost all memories but one. The
memories of Love of people all gathered around a fire and exchanging of
small colorful parcels. He looked he could now see that the lights where
beads of bright lights hung from the rim of the roof of homes. Many of the
houses had flickering light inside. Then he heard it again. MUSIC. He
ran to the sound wanting to hear it louder. To understand to become part
of it.
He could hear what people who loved sang of:
"Tis the season to be jolly"
More, he must hear more but it was becoming dim, as there was a sudden gust
of wind as the snow blew into his face. He slowed his pace to a walk and
put his hands over Gabriel.
He then saw people who made the music. They were in the black cloaks. He
thought that they where the greatest sight in his journey.
" Deck the halls with bells.LOOK"
At the sight of Jonas they had stopped and ran toward him. He dropped the
sled trying to reach them and he fell to his knees and put Gab right in
front of himself on the ground as he fainted into the snow..
He was in a warm bed. He did not open his eyes when he woke. When he
mustered the strength to open his eyelids and look it was night and there
was a dog by a glowing fire that cracked as thought it had been alight for
hours. Under a colorful tree was the colorful parcel he had seen in a. was
it a dream. He also felt the feeling of home and warmth.
A feeling all to new to him. Home would never have the ups of joy and the
feeling of sadness. "Sarah he's awake," said an old weary female voice.
Another female walked in.
"Thank goodness" she said, "Are you feeling better? You don't feel sick do
you and, right your little baby friend is fine he has a little frost bite
and a cold but he'll be fine," she said with a small smile but the corner
of her mouth was twitching.
"Thank you" said Jonas and he smiled back.
"We hope you are well and after what happened we want to make you
fell better while your in bed so we got you this," she handed him a small
color raped parcel it was thin and rectangular shaped.
"What do I do?" he asked having had forgotten parts of the memories
of love he had gotten.
"Open it silly and Merry Christmas."
"What is Christmas" He asked
"Maybe he has amnesia," She said. He saw her put her hand near her
mouth to direct her voice to the older female "never you mind just open
it."
He did and saw a book called ANTHEM (just a joke) He turned it over
and read the back and looked up and smiled with a "Thank you"
He began to read of a story close to his but yet so different. "And
what is your name sonny" said the older female.
He though and looked up. "Please call me The Giver." He knew that
he had left the two older women in a loss of thought. But, to himself he
was the giver to not a single receiver but to the whole community.
