So I know its canon that Moroha became a bounty hunter, but I'm curious of what would have happened if Kouga sent her to a temple to train. Was mentored by Kaede and learned of her parents and Kikyo. IDK just a passing thought

Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of Moroha and find her to be quite the Mary sue, her character was so bland and annoying. However, this A/U felt interesting so I thought I'd do a one off story of her. I won't be writing about her again in the future, so please don't ask for requests of her.

It had been fifteen years since that night, the moment that Kagome gave up her only child, when she sacrificed her safety for the wellbeing of her child. Making sure her daughter knew she was loved, that she wasn't giving her up by choice, but only because she had no other option, knowing her daughter was in safe hands. So long as Kirinmaru saw her daughter as a threat, let alone her nieces, they couldn't be together. Kirinmaru would only hunt down her daughter, using her as bait to hurt herself and InuYasha. This was what was best for her, even though it would be the hardest decision either of them would make. She had been sent far away, where nobody would find her, the last place anyone expected to look. Kouga the new wolf prince and leader of the tribe was an old friend and travelling companion of Kagome, she was the safest person she could trust. Masking Moroha's scent, making her harder to track. Since Kouga raised her child to keep her safe from harm, helping her control her demon powers, but upon her reaching ten years old her demon blood became too potent to control. Moroha was more human than demon, she lacked the balance of her step uncle, her human blood was polluted by the demon blood within her. She had lashed out at her teacher and severely wounded her, forcing them to seal away her demon blood to stop her from going rabid again. So she could have some semblance of a normal childhood, that way Kirinmaru couldn't sense her demonic heritage. But one day she would have to grow up and face the truth, she wouldn't be able to hide forever, it wasn't something she could run away from. When she was old enough to utilise her spiritual power and demon blood, where she would find the balance she needed. To follow in Kagome's footsteps. Her father had made her another version of the robe of the fire rat, similar to his own. Due to her being weaker, on account of her stronger human blood. It was a coming of age present, much like the one her grandfather had given her grandmother prior to his death. She would need a suit of armour to protect herself. But it was sealed away, made sure it would never fall into the wrong hands and Moroha was prepared for the responsibility. The robe of the fire rat was a formidable armour and coveted by many. Being the remaining item of the previous lord of the western lands, many of his enemies wished to destroy it or abuse its power. Until she came of age, Touga's Beni too. But she was given Priestess robes for her to wear during her training, so she could become a miko. The ceremonial graduation meant she could adorn any attire of her choosing. But as a student, she would wear an all white robe. Showing her growth and transformation as she developed her abilities.

Kaede had become her mentor, having learned everything she knew from her older sister, she was a greatly respected priestess and even in her older years her powers were still potent. She was a legacy, having inherited her title from her sister, she had become her village priestess, but in her golden years would someday need someone to take over. Kagome was sealed away after the battle against Kirinmaru, so Moroha was their only hope. But she was sent to a temple to train, as it would take several years to become a fully fledged priestess. If Moroha lost control at any point, not even her spiritual powers could help her, it was about finding balance. Meditation, purification ceremonies, learning archery and more, all of the skills necessary to become a priestess. Sitting in a temple for hours on end praying, meditating and even sitting under a waterfall. Being sent on foraging trips, learning responsibility, cleaning the temple and more. Becoming a priestess was no easy feat and it took years to master. But of course, they had to form a backup plan and safeguard in case Moroha ever did lose control, as much as it hurt Kaede to do so. Her parents had forged this before her birth, just in case the worst should happen. Much like how Kikyo forged the beads of subjugation which her reincarnation would later use on him, Moroha was given a charm bracelet to keep herself in check. Though it was only to be used in the worst case scenario if Moroha couldn't be snapped back to reality by anything else, the word "sit" used on her, much like her father if she ever lost control. To assure Moroha didn't believe herself to be an orphan, to make her aware of why they had safeguards and were wary of her. Kaede had decided that when she was old enough, she should known the truth, but she wanted Moroha to have as much of a normal childhood as she could, like her parents wished. While living as a student, she had learned of her family, her parents, her heritage. At first Moroha had been in shock to realise she had demonic blood, of her uncle and father. That her father had to use the Tetsuigha to keep his demon blood in check so he never lost control, and how his uncle on many occasions had to snap him out of a demon blood rage. Kaede assured her that such a thing was very unlikely to occur due to her potent human blood, but the beads were just to be sure, aware of how it would eat away at Moroha should anything bad happen without her control.

Kaede had become wiser in her age, aware of how difficult life would be for Moroha, and not just because of her demon blood. She had a lot of pressure on her shoulders, struggling with her identity. Half demons were common, quarter demons were less so, most Hanyou either married humans and chose to give up their demon blood, or never procreated. In the rare case due to shame and bitterness, Hanyou would choose to become full demons or marry other demons to create stronger offspring. But her parents would never want her to live with shame or any resentment of herself, to become her own person. Having to live up to the reputation of Kagome, her mother; the priestess who came from the future and chose to live in the past with her husband. The woman who gave up her life for the sake of a Hanyou she met in the past. A woman who was regarded as the reincarnation of one of the strongest priestess to have ever lived. Her Hanyou father InuYasha who was once an enemy of Kaede and sought the jewel for himself, whom had once resented humans but found peace with himself. Giving up his wish to become a full demon and accept himself. The son of one of the strongest DaiYokai to have ever lived, wielding his sword. The more she learned about her parents, the more conflicted she felt about them. Her mother, the reincarnation of the late priestess Kikyo, who was destined to destroy the Shikon Jewel, whom had defeated the Hanyou Naraku from destroying the world. Falling prey to the Shikon jewel's influence. Her grandmother Izayoi, a royal princess, her Grandfather Touga, the great dog general, the legacy she had to live up to. How could she compare to any of them? She had no idea what happened to any of them, why they abandoned her, why she was left alone. Kaede had pressed how much her parents had loved one another, but more so how happy her mother had been to become pregnant. Expecting her first child to pass on her knowledge to, all of the wisdom she had learned over the years. Causing a sense of abandonment and loneliness, wishing she could have known her parents.

Kouga of course visited, teaching her basic combat skills, atop the lessons she learned at the temple, so as to better prepare her. He had known Moroha since she was a baby, he promised Kagome he would watch over her daughter. But he had become fond of Moroha and considered her family, making sure she didn't get lonely. However, he couldn't come too close to the temple grounds due to the barrier and spiritual power causing him pain. But he taught Moroha all the lessons he could, making sure she didn't lose control, teaching her how to hunt, how to fight and how to use her senses. All things she would need to use so she never weakened her demonic abilities and learned to trust them. Making sure Moroha knew about her family, despite having never met them she deserved to know the truth. Reminiscing about stories of his youth, how he met her mother Kagome and about his rivalry with her father, their lives, and their journey to find the jewel and defeat Naraku. How much they had loved her

Sesshoumaru, her paternal half uncle, whom had daughters of his own whom she later learned were her cousins, he checked in when he wasn't watching over his wife and had a sense of coldness, his gaze always hardened, sharp and filled with an emotion she couldn't describe, but Kouga assured her he had softened from when he first met him. She guessed it was a sense of duty, perhaps something he promised her parents before they went missing. Making sure she behaved, that she didn't get into trouble. Sesshoumaru knew this path was where she would lead, it was always fated for her, he wasn't surprised in the least she became a priestess, she had the same powers as her mother. She would have better control of her demon blood with this, she would be less of a troublemaker and she could form an income. Though it didn't mean people wouldn't be wary of her or turn her away. She was the only known priestess in history with demon blood.

Moroha gazed out at the woodlands with a sense of longing and pride, she couldn't believe how fast time had passed and how much she had changed. She had spent half her life here, Kouga sending her here when she turned ten years old, sensing she was old enough. She was hitting puberty and her powers would begin to awaken, she couldn't ignore them. She had grown so much, but she had a lot to learn, she wondered what lessons she would learn as she got older and stronger. She had come to this place when she was but ten years old, a mere toddler, now she was a teenager, she was fifteen, the same age her mother had been when she discovered her powers. She imagined if her parents could see her now, if they were watching over her, wishing her luck wherever they were, a warm smile on her face. She was adorning the traditional white obi robe, red hakama trousers, and an altered version of the robe of the fire rat. Sown and woven into a Haori jacket to wear outside of her robes, it had been adorned with bells on the sleeves of each hem. She remembered the day Kaede had gifted it to her, explaining that her parents had left it for her, now it was hers. The tears that had spilled down her cheeks from joy and sadness. red toeless socks on her feet, given she was more durable than normal humans. She had a sheath for her sword, the kurikaramaru, as well as her quiver of arrows and bow. Her shoulder length black hair was formed into a ponytail with a red ribbon. Moroha had been warned of the dangers her powers faced and the limits she had, her Beni was warned to only be used as a secret weapon and emergency. Due to the fact that when Moroha transformed she lost a fragment of her humanity in the process, only to be used as a last resort.

She thought of all the bonds she had formed during her training, how she had become less lonely from the people who had raised her. Kaede had become like a grandmother to her, Kouga an adopted uncle, the parents she never had. They promised her that someday her parents would return, they would find a way to come back to her. But until then she needed to do them proud, to use her gift to help those in need. She would fight demons, purifying corrupted places, exorcising their wicked power, protecting people. She could make a bounty to live using her skills, forming an income. But Kaede knew she would hear stories involving her mother as she travelled, Kagome was a rare being, though reincarnation as common, rarely did they cross paths into the past. She wanted to shield Moroha from any hurt she may endure. While she was growing up and she came of age, Kaede told her of the late priestess Kikyo, her older sister, the woman who protected the Shikon jewel and was slain by Naraku to obtain its power. Resurrected against her will, until she got revenge and found peace explained that her sister had been a lover of InuYasha, both of them being their first love. Kikyo had died hating InuYasha but eventually found her peace. Moroha had opted to call her "Oba-chan" or "Kikyo Oba-chan" out of respect, knowing that Kikyo had been someone special to her father, as had her mother. Her seal was always checked for weakness, as to not become tainted by the potency of her demon blood, much like her father and her cousins. The beads she wore differed from the ones Kikyo had originally forged, the beads were made from the blood of InuYasha and Kagome, and one of InuYasha's fangs. A stronger, more durable form of beads than average demons, forming a red and white colour in comparison to the black and white of her father.

Miroku, a fellow monk had helped her on her journey, having learned Kaede was mentoring Kagome's daughter. Travelling from a village where he and Sango had settled with their children and formed a life together. Having had to learn to increase his own powers post losing his curse, she later learned he had been best friends with Kagome, acting as a mentor to her daughter. He told Moroha to visit whenever she liked, their door was always open and he would happily teach her anything she wished. She was family, he had known Kagome since she was fifteen, becoming like a sister to him.

Suddenly she heard a sound nearby, turning her head curiously to notice Kaede approaching, Kaede smiled warmly, Moroha was the spitting image of her parents, they would be so proud of her growth. It seemed her senses were acute, Kouga's training had truly influenced her and would become her shield when facing demons. But the danger of her parents and even her grandfather's enemies coming after her out of revenge was bound to happen. Grudges often passed through generations, even when the other family members had no involvement. "Moroha-chan, you are now a fully fledged priestess, your mother would be so proud" she praised.

Moroha shifted, she was constantly compared to her mother, people complimenting and praising her for how much she resembled her. Though she knew it came from a good place, she still felt the seed of doubt int the back of her mind. She had never known her mother, she was a stranger, a mere story she had been told of. She gripped her hands bravely and swallowed "Kaede Oba-chan, am... am I like her?" she asked.

Kaede hummed, she could see the doubt and anxiety swimming behind Moroha's eyes, desperate for validation and support. Due to Moroha being separated from her parents as an infant, she would have no memories of them, that frustrating feeling of them being strangers to her. Having such a distant relationship to both parents, such a conflicted feeling. She prayed for the day that they would be reunited and Moroha would be back with her family. "You resemble Kagome greatly, her same thick black hair, those intense brown eyes and your facial expressions, her courage. But you take after your father mostly, InuYasha; you have his face shape, his stubbornness" she joked. Whenever Moroha sulked growing up, she was the spitting image of her father, especially her mischief.

Moroha softened, licking her lips nervously, "And Kikyo? I mean, I know my mum was her reincarnation. So that kind of makes her related to me, doesn't it?" she mumbled. It felt right to call her auntie, given she was the past incarnation of her mother, they were family in some ways. Everyone compared this woman to her mother, a legacy, a legend, greatly revered. Part of her wished she could have met her, wishing she could see her powers in person. She wondered if Kikyo knew she would be reincarnated, what had caused it and how she felt about her mother? What kind of life she lived before she died. She had so many questions about her.

A hurt and lonely expression formed on Kaede's face, pain flickering behind her eyes "Kikyo, my late elder sister, the owner and protector of the Shikon Jewel. She and your father were lovers for many years before Naraku murdered her, pitting them against one another. Your mother was her reincarnation, she was a wise, kind but tormented soul" she reflected. Kikyo had never had the choice for marriage, love and a normal life despite desiring it. She had repressed much of her selfish and negative emotions, carrying a pure soul. Kikyo had been uncorruptable, pure and kind hearted, village children had adored her, the villagers worshipped her. Prior to her death and resurrection, Kikyo had been a gentle soul, much like Kagome. But her supposed betrayal, death and trauma had corrupted her. In death Kikyo was able to express all the resentment, sadness and bitterness she never could when she was alive. But she had desperately sought what she lost in life, her happiness and future.

Moroha felt a sense of guilt for asking such a thing, the pain in Kaede's eyes evident that she still missed her sister. She couldn't imagine the pain of watching a loved one die in front of you so tragically, being helpless to prevent it. Living without them for the rest of your life, merely having their memories. "Your uncle Sesshoumaru, he mated with a woman named Rin, his previous companion. She sired him twins, your paternal half cousins, Towa and Setsuna. You may cross paths with them on travels, though I cannot predict how that encounter will go down" Kaede sighed. Sesshoumaru had visited Moroha on occasion post Rin's birth and being sealed away, leaving the twins to fend for themselves but watching over them. Many knew that Rin had always been Sesshoumaru's fated person, he had always been gentle towards her. They were the only family Moroha had left after her parents went missing.

Moroha hummed, so she had family out there, distant but still living, so she wasn't alone, she wasn't an orphan. She vaguely remembered him visiting her growing up, staring her down as if trying to intimidate her. He didn't speak much and his facial expressions never changed, she had no idea what he thought of her. She hadn't heard anything of what he was doing now, what became of his wife and her cousins. Why hadn't they visited? Did they know she existed or were they just awkward? She had no idea. She wondered if she would ever meet her parents, would she ever see them again, would they ever return for her? They had left her the Beni and robes after all, that had to prove they cared. She didn't know what her father had done for a living post defeating Naraku, she had no idea what he did for an income. She knew her mother had taken over protecting Kaede's village prior to her disappearance. What would they think of her choices? Would they be disappointed? Happy? Proud? Would they even want her?

Kaede approached, gently touching Moroha's hand, revealing the bracelet around her wrist "Remember Moroha, that seal must never break, your demon blood can be toxic though powerful. Only use it if necessary, someday you may turn fully demon and we cannot bring you back. You aren't like your father or uncle, but teach the world you aren't a monster" Kaede soothed. Moroha had a passionate heart like her parents, she had a lot of love in her heart and a lot to learn about the world. She didn't see her as a monster, nor did Kouga. But not everyone thought like them, the rift between humans and demons still existed. It had for centuries, it wouldn't change so easily. Just like how demons would try and kill her, humans would chase her out, drive her away and avoid her. She would be bullied all her life and she needed to be prepared for that.

Moroha nodded, her eyes bright and solemn, nodding in understanding. "Ill send you guys half my bounty, I owe it to ya. Since you looked after me n' all, your like my family. I'll kick demon ass and prove I can do it" she boasted. She could use the money to buy food, maybe find a tavern to stay the night, but she needed to support the temple. They could have driven her away, rejected her or treated her like a monster. But they had taken her in when she had nowhere to go. She owed them a big debt and she needed to repay them. She would make them proud and prove she was stronger than she looked.

Kaede chuckled, she knew Moroha would keep her word, she was loyal to those who were good to her, "Just like her father" she reminisced. "But never let this break, I cannot predict what will happen if it does" Kaede warned. It was sealed using her spiritual power, making it repellant to demons, but it wasn't unbreakable. If any severe damage was done it would shatter. Until the day came that Moroha no longer needed them, they would remain in place. Moroha nodded, caressing the beads affectionately, the only connection to her parents she had, aside from the robe. They had been left to her for a reason and she needed to protect them. "Be brave Moroha, be strong, but also be kind" Kaede smiled, she handed Moroha her bag, filled with food supplies, medicinal herbs, a blanket and other necessary items she would need, ready to travel as a priestess.

Moroha hugged Kaede, she would miss her so much "Bye Kaede Oba-chan, don't you die on me" she warned, she was the only family she had. She would write letters whenever she could and return to the temple when she had the chance. She would never forget her, she feared the day that something would happen to Kaede. If she got sick or ended up dying somehow, it scared her. She eventually pulled away from Kaede, bolting down the stairs and towards the forests. Kaede watched as Moroha ran happily ahead of her, following her path, she reminded her so much of her mother.
