Pokemon Academy: Beginning of Beginnings

Chapter 1091

Dokukage didn't want anyone to see him sweat. But internally, he was panicking like hell. What the fuck? What the fuck is going on here?! He wanted to scream. Why do I have to fight these two? Why does it have to be me?!

He realized that his goal of defeating his sister and former friend was further and further away by the second. He needed to push himself in order to defeat them both and bring them back home. But right now wasn't the right time. He was overwhelmed.

If only I didn't have this Samarra problem to worry about… then I'd be able to-

"Oh? What's going on here?"

A familiar voice caught Dokukage's ear, and he turned his head around to see a curious Rafe approaching the clearing, with Callie in tow.

"Dokukage? Mirar? What are you two doing?" Callie asked, confused. "We're supposed to be back at Rui's house."

"It is not something that concerns you," Dokukage coldly replied. "This is a personal matter."

"Are these your friends?" Shima asked, raising his eyebrow. "Nice to meet you both! My name is Shima, and this is Shinobu. Dokukage was here was just helping us find something important."

"Shima, leave them out of this," Dokukage warned, trying to keep the anger out of his voice. But the other boy ignored him.

"You two wouldn't happen to know anything about a stone called an Oracle, would you?" Shima asked, still keeping his diplomatic smile. "It would be bright green, and about this big, giving off an aura supporting Grass type pokemon?"

Rafe had no reaction to the question, but Callie's flinch answered everything. These people were looking for Alcea's necklace… that meant they were probably connected to those other girls, Blake's sister and that Valerie…

Shima narrowed his eyes, his smile still painted to his face. "Ah, I see. So it looks like you do know what I'm talking about, don't you?"

Callie narrowed her eyes into a glare. "I'm not handing it over, so you can forget it! We beat you Children of the Oracles before, and we can do it again!"

Dokukage and Mirar were mildly surprised, but Shima was taken aback. His ninja training seemed all but forgotten as he sstared wide-eyed at the blonde girl.

"Well, I suppose, if that's the way you want to play it…" he mused, reaching for his own pokeball, "then we'll have to deal with you ourselves."

Shima flung a pokeball forward, and with a flash of light, a Yanmega appeared from within it. The bug pokemon let out a fierce buzzing noise and its wings quickly formed a sonic shockwave, which it sent flying towards Callie.

"Callie!" Dokukage shouted, his pretense forgotten. But the attack was too swift for him to do anything about it.

Callie cried and raised her arms to protect herself futilely, but there was no need. The shockwave smashed against a pink barrier, completely dispersing.

"Hey there, there's no need to do anything like that," Rafe said calmly. Hovering over his shoulder was his Woobat.

Shima's smile faded. He glared at Rafe. "So you're getting in our way too, now?"

"Why of course," Rafe said. His smile had a dangerous edge to it. "You are attacking my dear little sister, after all, I can't just let that stand." He turned to Callie and smiled.

"Fine then. Yamamuro will destroy you," Shima said.

"And that's not all!" Shinobu agreed. "Hahako, go!"

"Leavanny!" Hahako emerged from her pokeball in a flurry of leaves, raising her arms. She sent a swirl of razor-sharp leaves flying towards the Swoobat and his trainer.

"Oh, no you don't!" Callie exclaimed. She ripped a pokeball from her own belt and sent out a pokemon of her own. Her Crabominable emerged with a bellow, pounding his chest. He jumped in the way of the leaves and barely flinched as they struck his hairy exterior.

"So you've got some tricks of your own, I see," Shima mused. "No matter. Even a pokemon like that is no match for my own team.

"Hey, Callie," Rafe called to his sister with a smile. "It looks like we're fighting together on this one! Doesn't that seem like a load of fun? You and me, battling on the same side? I couldn't imagine a more enjoyable experience!"

Callie's face twisted into a sour grimace. Rafe might have been thrilled at the chance to fight side by side with his sister, but she wasn't exactly thrilled. Rafe was one of the most annoying people in the world, and being in a battle with him, no matter WHAT side he was on, was a recipe for frustration, that was for sure.

But she had to put that behind her. Right now, she had opponents who needed to be defeated, and she'd need Rafe's help to do it.

"Whatever!" She snapped. "Ken, use ice beam!"

"Crabominable!" Ken opened his mouth and fired a beam of ice at the Yanmega, who dodged out of the way with his speed.

"Ice beam, Callie?" Rafe asked, surprised. "And here I thought you were the type to rely on brute force in your battles, why use an ice beam?"

"Shut it!" Callie snapped. "Ken! Ice punch!"

Having distracted the two pokemon with his ice beam, the Crabominable was now poised to attack, dashing through the grass with his fist raised, focusing on attacking the Leavanny.

"Well, in that case… we'll support you!" Rafe agreed. "Right, Formalin?"

"Woobat!" Formalin bobbed up and down, flapping his wings and flying into the battle.

"…And by that, I mean have fun," Rafe said, plopping down on the ground and lounging back in the grass. Some thngs never changed, no matter how much those things irritated Callie and made her want to scream.

The battle had begun, a two on two with a brother-sister tag team against the ninja duo of Shinobu and Shima!

…And Dokukage stood on the sidelines in a stunned silence, completely forgotten by the group. He turned to Mirar.

"It's rather frustrating to be overlooked by people, isn't it?" Mirar said calmly. "But don't worry. You'll get used to it."

"…It's fine," Dokukage muttered, shaking his head. This was probably for the best anyway. Callie, due to her injuries, probably wouldn't be much help against Samarra. She didn't have the stamina at the moment for a protracted fight. Better to exhaust herself and her pokemon on a handful of enemies, if it would mean conserving Dokukage's position.

On the other hand, Rafe could do quite a lot… if he could be counted on. And in spite of how dangerous a situation they found themselves in, Dokukage STILL couldn't be sure that Rafe would join the fight and help them, or at least not in a constructive manner. So if this was a fight that would motivate the duo, that would be fine.

"Yamamuro, blow that crab away," Shima ordered. "Use your air slash."

"Yanmega!" Yamamuro flapped his wings, sending a blade of air towards the Crabominable. But again, it was dashed against Formalin's light screen.

"With Formalin's barrier, your special attacks won't do much damage!" Callie crowed, taking over the role of boasting from her older brother, cheering on both pokemon. "That brother of mine might be a mess, but his pokemon sure know how to fight! Now, Ken, use avalanche!"

"Crabominable!" Ken raised his arms and sent a wave of ice and snow roaring across the battlefield, crashing towards the two Bug type pokemon.

"Yamamuro, dodge!" Shima ordered. Yamamuro's speed allowed him to evade the waves of ice, but Hahako wasn't so lucky. She was a fast pokemon, but there was too much ice for her to dodge, and she was soon buried.

But to Callie's frustration, that didn't mean much.

The ice and snow fell away, revealing a green barrier wrapped around the Leavanny. She smiled politely, and her body was completely protected from the attack.

"Excellent work, Hahako!" Shinobu smiled. "Now, swords dance!"

"Leavanny!" Hahako raised her arms and scraped her claws together, sharpening her attacking power. Callie could see what she was dealing with immediately, and knew she had to take measures to get an advantage.

"Planning to baton pass? Well, that won't do much good! Formalin, can you use your powers to do something?" She turned hopefully to her brother's Woobat. But the Woobat shook from side to side in denial.

She wanted to scream. It was her brother's job to be helping her in this fight, and he was busy taking a nap! Well, whatever. If he and his pokemon weren't going to be much help, then there was only one thing they could do.

"Ken, we've got to prevent her from getting away!" Callie shouted. "Use ice punch!"

"Crabominable!" Ken charged towards the Leavanny, raising his fist. Ice coated his claw and he struck Hahako in the chest with an incredible ice punch, sending the pokemon flying through the air with one blow.

"Leav-!" Hahako clutched her chest and hit the ground hard. The attack had done some serious damage! But it hadn't finished her off, and she wasn't about to run from a fight she could win.

"Aerial ace," Shinobu calmly ordered. Hahako disappeared, reappearing behind Ken and slashing into him with a powerful strike. Ken cried out in pain, stumbling forward from the force of the aerial ace attack.

"Ken!" Callie cried. That one looked like it hurt.

"We'll join in on this," Shima smirked, nodding to his Yanmega. "Yamamuro, use your aerial ace as well to finish him off!"

"Yan," Yamamuro nodded, disappearing. He reappeared, preparing to strike Ken with everything he had. Even with the Crabominable's phenomenal defenses, this attack was going to be a serious blow, that was for sure.

But before the attack could hit, Ken disappeared. Formalin reappeared in his place with a big smile, and his nose began to glow. A pink barrier of light appeared around his body, and he deflected the aerial ace with a protect.

"You're not the only one who can use protect," Rafe called from the sidelines, giving his pokemon a thumbs' up. "Happy to support, sis!"

"Fight for real then!" Callie exclaimed, but her pleas went unheard. Rafe just cheered on his Woobat, giving the pokemon some encouragement.

"That will be fine then," Shinobu said, her eyes already focusing on the injured Crabominable again. "You can't use a move like that over and over again. Hahako, use your aerial ace a second time on that pokemon!"

"Leavanny!" Hahako disappeared in preparation for the attack. Callie winced, already knowing what was coming. Aerial ace was a devastating attack, and not one that Ken could easily deal with. Especially from that Leavanny.

Hahako reappeared, claw raised, and prepared to slash at Ken. The Crabominable raised his arms to shield himself from the attack, but he didn't need to, because Hahako suddenly stopped herself, confused.

"Leavanny?!" Hahako looked at her glowing body, wondering why she couldn't use her move. She looked to her trainer for clarification, but Shinobu was just as confused as her pokemon was. She turned to her partner.

"Shima, what's going on?" She demanded. "Why didn't aerial ace work?!"

Callie wasn't about to look a gift Horsea in the mouth. She'd been given an opening, and she was going to take it!

"Ken! Ice punch, now!"

"Crabominable!" Ken swung his fist up into Hahako's gut, knocking the air out of her. Hahako was launched back by the force of Ken's punch, stumbling back.

"How?" Shinobu asked again. She was doing a very poor job of keeping control of her emotions as a ninja was meant to. But then, that was because what Shima expected most from her was to be passionate and engaged, and so that's who she became. A passionate, engaged woman who was completely confused by what the hell was going on here.

"I can answer that question for you!"

Rafe walked into the center of the battlefield, to the shock of all three ninjas, and to the annoyed sigh of Callie. Mirar expected it at this point.

"Formalin here is a very fun guy," Rafe explained, petting his Woobat. "Like me, he enjoys keeping himself entertained. The problem is, he can be so easily bored… so for that reason, I thought it was best to teach him a certain move to amuse him with, known as imprison."

Nobody but Mirar had ever heard of that move, so Rafe needed to clarify a little more. "The way imprison works," he continued, "is that it uses Formalin's psychic power to prevent his opponents from using any move that he knows himself. That way, he can make sure to only see new and exciting things, isn't that fun?"

Shinobu couldn't believe it. "So the reason Hahako couldn't use aerial ace is because your Woobat knows the move, is that right?"

"Exactly," Rafe grinned cheerfully. "And I'm sure you'll see that some of your other pokemon's moves won't be of much use, either."

Shima narrowed his eyes. "Air slash. I see."

"Exactly," Rafe chirped. "And your Leavanny's protect, as well. My friend Formalin here knows quite a lot of moves."

"Well, here's one you don't know," Shinobu scowled behind her mask. "Hahako, use x-scissor! I don't care if you hit that guy, either!"

"Rafe!" Callie shouted. She was about to go tackle her brother out of the way, but a stab of pain shot through her chest that made her pause. She still wasn't at full strength, and she couldn't get to him in time.

But she should have known that she didn't need to do something so desperate. A protective barrier rose up around Formalin, protecting Rafe as well. Hahako's claws bounced right off the barrier, but confirmed for everyone present that she could still use the move, and that was good enough for Shinobu right now.

"Now Hahako! Go after that Crabominable!" She shouted, turning to her Leavanny. Hahako nodded, charging at Ken.

"You as well, Yamamuro," Shima ordered. He wasn't sure what moves were sealed, but he imagined that the Woobat probably didn't know many Bug type moves. "Leech life."

Yamamuro shot forward, opening his fangs. He bit down hard on Ken, draining away some of his strength, but Ken's natural resistance to the Bug type meant the attack did very little. Ken, enraged, swung his claw at the Yanmega, trying to knock it away, but Yamamuro's Speed Boost ability was keeping his speed high, and there wasn't a chance of the blow connecting.

Hahako was right behind the flying pokemon. With her claws raised, she swung down upon Ken, and did significantly more damage to the injured Crabominable. He shielded himself from the blows as best as he could, with a little help from his trainer.

"Ken!" Callie shouted. "Use iron defense to protect yourself!"

"Crabominable!" Ken bellowed, his fur glowing silver as Hahako's blades bounced off his tough exterior with barely a scratch.

"You won't defeat Ken and I with moves like that!" Callie boasted. She didn't expect to feel so empowered fighting at her brother's side, but she had to admit. At the moment, he was really a lot of help for this fight!

Speak of the devil, Formalin's barrier fell, revealing that the Woobat was glowing pink as he focused his psychic powers.

"Excellent calm mind, Formalin," Rafe complimented. "You're doing well! This should be more than enough to take down those two!"

"One calm mind? You've got to be kidding," Callie scowled. "This is just your excuse to back out of this fight!"

Rafe shrugged, ignoring her. He patted his pokemon and returned to the sidelines. Which should be expected, since he had no business being on the battlefield, but it still pissed her off.

"Hahako," Shinobu said, turning to her Leavanny, "we need to switch to a different pokemon. We need some brute power! Thanks for the swords dance, no, baton pass!"

She held up her pokeball to recall her Leavanny, but Hahako remained motionless.

It took a moment for Shinobu to realize what was happening. It occurred to Dokukage first, who couldn't believe it.

"Having trouble?" Rafe called from the sidelines, smiling cheekily. "I suppose I should mention, baton pass? That's ALSO a move that Formalin knows."

He turned to Dokukage and winked. "Had to shut off my ninja friend somehow, isn't that right, Dokukage?"

Dokukage didn't know what to say, but Mirar did. He smirked.

"That's the problem with strategies like those that you ninja employ," he said calmly. "There's a reason you keep them secret, isn't that right? Because the right trainer, when they know what you're capable of, can think of a dozen ways to shut down your tactics."

Shinobu used every trick she'd learned as the finest shinobi in her village to keep her anger under control. But she wanted to scream.

Well, the battle's certainly getting off to a hot start! It wasn't exactly the fight that was expected, but it might be even better! We have the brother-sister duo against the ninja duo… and Dokukage is off to the side… alone… with no one but Mirar as company… oh well! This should still be entertaining! A nice little warm-up before we move onto dealing with Samarra and her friends!
