After spending a couple days in the hospital, Higgins was cleared to return home, which also meant her friends could also leave the hospital. When Juliet returned to Robin's Nest, Kumu insisted that she use the wheelchair, even if it was just for the first day. Reluctantly, Juliet agreed in order to ease the older woman's tension and worry.

Once she was wheeled inside, the Lads approached the majordomo. At first, the sniffed the wheelchair and whined, but once Higgins patted them on the heads and soothed them with her voice, they obediently sat at her side.

Rick and TC offered to stay at the Nest while Higgins recovered, but Juliet suggested that they go home and visit the next day, saying that she would probably spend most of the day sleeping anyway. Without Higgins knowing, Thomas also assured the other two men that he would keep an eye on her.

Juliet spent the first day trying to relax, but she was unsuccessful since she wasn't able to do anything except sit in her metal chair. Enlisting Kumu's help, she eased herself into her bed and slept the rest of the day.

The following morning, Juliet was already sick of the wheelchair and she decided to ditch it completely at the end of her bed. She slowly got up from her bed, and once she was standing, Zeus was at her side again.

Where's Apollo? Juliet asked herself.

Slowly but surely, Juliet limped towards the kitchen under Zeus's watchful gaze. The moment she entered the room, flashbacks from that horrible night shot through her mind. Rather than eat breakfast like she had planned, Juliet turned around and headed outside to get some air.

Walking through the main living area, Juliet took a deep breath and looked around, making sure everything was in place like she had remembered. She noticed the only thing out of place was a blanket on the couch. She examined it for a moment before realizing it wasn't hers and it was in fact Magnum's. After carefully folding the fabric and setting it back on the couch, she made her way to the doors leading outside.

Looking out the glass French doors, she smiled at the ocean view in the mid-morning sunshine. She took in the natural sights for a moment, sighing as she remembered how long it had been since she woke up to the sights before her. Then she noticed Magnum sitting on the lawn facing the water, with Apollo sitting like a statue at Magnum's side, also with his back towards the house. Juliet took note of the temporary truce that Magnum and Apollo apparently had agreed upon.

As she walked closer to the odd pair, her investigation skills emerged as she picked up on the fact the doors were left slightly open; Juliet could only guess that this was in order for Magnum to hear what was going on inside the house. The open doors, the blanket on the couch, and Magnum's close proximity to the main house in the morning gave Juliet the impression that he was watching over her, even if he didn't outright tell her.

Higgins reached for the one of door handles and slowly opened it. As soon as the door started moving, Magnum quickly turned his head to see Higgins not only awake, but standing upright and inching towards him.

"Higgins," Magnum said, about to stand up and help her. "What are you-"

Juliet held her hand up, palm facing Magnum, silently telling him to stop. "I just wanted some fresh air."

Once she reached Magnum, she lowered herself into a sitting position next to him, with Zeus obediently staying at her side. Gritting her teeth halfway to the ground was Magnum's que to help her, and she smiled and nodded in thanks.

"Are you sure you should be up? And where's your wheelchair?" Thomas asked in a concerned tone.

After breathing through a flash of pain, Juliet gave him a mild glare. "I'm fine. I do not need to be trapped in that mobile metal prison. I'll be in another hospital bed before you see me in that thing again." The look on Magnum's face made her instantly regret her choice of words. "I'm sorry, I just don't enjoy being seen as weak or vulnerable."

"You don't need to be sorry," Thomas said softly as he turned to look at the water again. "And nobody in the right mind would think you're weak or vulnerable, even in a wheelchair. I beat you could still kick someone's ass while in it."

Juliet grinned in reply, but didn't say anything. She shifted her body on the ground until she found a sitting position that was comfortable enough to erase the grimace of pain on her face.

"How are you?" Magnum asked. He was looking at her, analyzing her, and she knew it.

"I've been better," Higgins replied. It wasn't a lie, but it would take hours to describe everything she was feeling at the moment, and she didn't have the energy for it. She looked at the private investigator. "I'll be okay."

It was at this point that Juliet really got a good look at Magnum for the first time since they left the hospital. The dark circles under his eyes and the lines on his face showed his exhaustion and worry.

"Magnum, are you alright?" Juliet asked calmly. "You look dreadful."

He glanced at her briefly before replying in monotone. "I'm fine."

Higgins fought the urge to laugh, sigh, and roll her eyes all at once. She gently held his arm, trying to get him to look at her. "Thomas, I know you're not fine. Rick and TC know it too. Please talk to me; there's nobody else here. What's wrong?"

After several moments passed, he finally looked her in the eyes. His plan was to pretend like everything was fine in order to help her heal faster, but something in her eyes made his mouth work against his mind.

"I wasn't there," was all he said.

There was a short silence before Juliet prodded. "Okay, you weren't there. Your point?"

Magnum sighed before elaborating. "I wasn't there, and you three got hurt. It's my fault." Juliet was about to reply, but Magnum continued. "I wasn't there to help. I wasn't there to protect you, any of you. The people I care about most in the world could've all been killed, and Higgins, you technically did die."

"I don't need protection," Juliet replied smoothly. She knew what Magnum meant by his statement, but she also wanted to reassure him that he doesn't need to carry the everything on his shoulders. She agreed with Rick and TC: that sometimes Magnum needs to be reminded his friends were capable of taking care of themselves.

Magnum glanced at Higgins. "I know you don't." Then he looked to the water once again. "But I want to be there if you need me, and I wasn't. I wasn't able to help any of you."

Juliet tightened her grip slightly on Magnum's arm, but he refused to look at her, so she continued without Magnum's gaze on her. "I understand Magnum. And I know this goes back to your military days as well, specifically those 18 months." Magnum's nod told her she was right. "I appreciate the fact you want to protect us and be there for us, we all do, but please trust us in our abilities to protect ourselves, and also you on occasion," she added with a smirk.

Magnum seemed to consider this, but he didn't say anything. Changing tactics, Juliet released Magnum's arm and looked out to the ocean as well.

"What do you think would have happened if you were there?" Higgins asked.

Magnum pondered this for a moment before he shrugged. "Well Rick and I would've both gone to the kitchen after the first gunshot. We would've had our weapons drawn, and there probably would have been a shootout."

"Okay," Higgins replied. "Here's how I see it… if you and Rick would have been there, the odds would've been against the intruders immediately, making them more desperate. Rather than trying to subdue us with non-lethal techniques, they wouldn't have hesitated to start shooting. In such close proximity with limited cover and a several soft targets, it would've likely ended with more casualties, and not just the intruders." She paused for a moment before adding, "If you were there, and there were bullets flying everywhere, there's no guarantee that all of us would still be alive."

The words echoed in Magnum's mind, and he didn't know if he believed them or not. Of course, it's possible that he would have been killed, that's something he could deal with, but if one of his friends died due to the change in circumstances, he certainly wouldn't be okay with that.

Juliet grinned when she saw Magnum fighting against his own thoughts. "I know this isn't what you want to hear Magnum, but everything happened like it was supposed to. Everyone is okay."

Magnum's head tilted forward as he looked at the ground in front of him. "I just don't know what I would do if I lost another one of my Ohana. First it was my mom during the Koregnal, then Nuzo last year. If Rick or TC didn't make it, or if you didn't come back… I wouldn't… I couldn't…" he couldn't even finish his sentence because of the emotions threatening to escape.

Higgins instinctively put her arms around him, and he immediately returned the embrace. He didn't know if she could see his glassy eyes, but he found himself not caring if she did.

"I understand Magnum, I really do," Juliet said before pulling out of the embrace so she could look at him properly. "Ohana means everything to you, and you are the kind of man that protects his Ohana at any cost. I admire that, but your Ohana in particular is tough and not only can we take care of themselves, but we all watch each other's backs."

Magnum nodded, and before any more words could be exchanged, a voice yelled from inside the main house.

"Hello? Anyone home?" Rick yelled in the distance.

The Lads both stood up about to greet and inspect the guests, but while their gaze faced the house, they remained near their master.

"I guess we have company," Magnum said.

"It would seem so," Higgins said as she struggled to stand up.

"TM, where are you?" TC yelled from the same direction as Rick's voice.

"We're out here!" Magnum hollered towards the house. Then he looked at Higgins, who was still trying to get on her feet. "Higgy, what are you doing?"

She looked sideways at him. "I am the majordomo of the estate, and it is impolite to not greet guests."

Juliet continued to struggle, and when she almost fell, Magnum was at her side in a moment and he placed her arm across his shoulders. He knew she wanted to refuse the help, but they both knew she wouldn't be able to stand or walk on her own given her current state.

"It's Rick and TC, I think they'll understand," he stated as he lowered her back onto the grass.

Once they were both sitting on the ground again, Juliet sighed in defeat. She glanced at Magnum, who was smirking at her.

"Don't say it," Higgins said, rolling her eyes at him.

"Say what?" Thomas asked, half laughing.

"I am not using the wheelchair," she muttered.

Magnum laughed. "Of course not. Why use a wheelchair when you can obviously stand and walk perfectly fine by yourself?" The huff Juliet let out made Magnum laugh even more.

A couple seconds of silence passed before Higgins spoke.

"Thank you, Thomas. Thank you for looking out for me," Juliet said, waiting for a second before she stated something that had been on her mind since she saw the blanket on the couch. "But you know, you don't have to keep watch overnight." Before Magnum could reply, she continued. "However, if you're going to continue, there are plenty of guest bedrooms with beds to sleep in."

Magnum looked at her questioningly, but then he smiled and shrugged. "That's alright. The couch will be fine until I'm sure you can walk on your own again, which I'm sure won't be too long."

Juliet was about to protest when Rick and TC walked through the French doors behind her.

"Hey you guys. How are we doing today?" Rick asked. He slowly lowered himself next to Zeus and pet the dog on the head. His right arm was still in a sling, but the injuries on his skin were healing well and the thinner wrap around his torso was only visible under his shirt when the wind blew the fabric around a bit.

"We are doing well, thank you," Juliet said. "How are you guys doing?" Higgins asked, looking at Rick and then TC, who was standing with his crutches next to Thomas and Apollo.

"Never better," Rick replied with his usual whimsical tone.

"We're just glad to see both of you doing alright," TC said as Thomas helped him sit on the ground next to Apollo.

"I cannot thank you enough for what you guys did that night. I promise to make it up to you somehow," Juliet said.

"There's no need Higgy Baby. It's not like you asked for crazy Russians to break into Robin's and try to kidnap or kill you," TC replied, but he winced at his last words. Magnum's expression hinted at his own dislike for stating the facts at the moment. "Sorry."

"He's right though," Rick said, mostly to Thomas. "But I'm sure we'll find a way to call us even," he added with a wink in Higgins' direction.

"I have an idea," Juliet said before turning to look at Thomas. "Magnum, why don't you go pick out a bottle from the wine cellar?"

Thomas raised his eyebrows. "Really? I'm allowed to go in there?"

Juliet shrugged. "Of course, just this one time," she said with a smirk. "You're your new friend, Apollo, is going to escort you."

"I knew there was a catch," Magnum said with a small smile as he stood up and turned towards the house. "Let's go, Apollo." The Doberman barked and dutifully followed.

As soon as the former SEAL was out of earshot, the two former Marines looked at the former MI6 agent.

"Higgy, I didn't think you could drink alcohol if you're on meds," TC said with a questioning look.

"That would apply if I actually took the pain medication that they prescribed me," Juliet replied. "Anyway, it's mostly for you guys and for Magnum to take a break from watching over me."

"How is he?" Rick asked in a flat, semi-serious tone.

Juliet thought about her response for a moment, trying to find the right words. "He'll be ok. He opened up a little bit, and I think after some time he'll be back to what he considers normal."

TC nodded his head. "He bottles things up inside, but you've earned his trust and loyalty pretty quick. Once you're up and walking again, I'm sure he'll feel better."

"I hope so. He wasn't thrilled when I refused to use the wheelchair, and he also slept on the couch in the main house last night," Juliet said. She noticed that she said this with a smile, but then it quickly faded. "It's hard to see him like this."

"He's protective and concerned. It's in his nature," Rick explained. "We've seen it a few times, so we know how rough it is. But one thing we learned is that if we allow him to keep an eye on us, we can keep an eye on him too."

"Who's the one mother-henning now, Orville?" Thomas said as we walked outside with a wine bottle in one hand, wine glasses in the other, and Apollo following closely behind him. "I didn't expect to be the topic of conversation, especially given recent events."

Rick put his hands up in surrender. "We're just making sure our Brother is doing okay."

"I'm fine," Thomas said and he lowered to the ground. He started pouring wine into the glasses as he spoke, "You guys don't need to worry about me. You should worry about yourselves, considering I'm the only one here that didn't receive medical treatment."

"Thomas, someone went after your Ohana, again. We know you too well to not be concerned," TC said.

Magnum was about to reply, presumably to argue, but Rick spoke first. "Don't deny it, Tommy. You know we're right."

Magnum finished pouring the wine and set the bottle down. He closed his eyes and sighed. "Yeah, you're right." He passed out the glasses to Rick and TC, and he hesitated when he was about to give Higgins a glass. "I'm assuming you didn't take your pain meds again?"

Juliet was taken aback. "You're correct."

Thomas gave Higgins the glass and quirked his eyebrow. "I am a private investigator."

All four of them took a sip of wine before Magnum elaborated. "This whole thing brought up some memories of the past, and I cannot lose anyone else in my life. I couldn't handle it if I did."

"You won't have you," TC stated confidently. "We're not going anyway."

"Yeah, what the big guy said," Rick said happily, trying to lighten the mood. "You're stuck with us, whether you like it or not."

Juliet put a hand on Magnum's shoulder. "We're Ohana. We've got each other's backs."

Magnum grinned. He could only think about how fortunate he was. His Ohana was alive, safe, and they were going to help each other get through every problem and incident their crazy lives threw them.

Thomas raised his glass in a toast-like fashion. "Mahalo."

Rick, TC, and Higgins all copied. "Mahalo."

Together, the four of them and the Lads enjoyed a peaceful morning, staring out at the beautiful water of Hawaii.
