Hello everyone!
Thank you for checking out my story!
Disclaimer I do not own anything except Yuri!
And this story will be following the manga and not the anime.
Please enjoy!

Silver hair shining in the light, ice blue eyes shined as a porcelain skinned young woman stepped out of her cab. A modest black dress covered her already curvy body as she placed a black hat over her head. The human world went on believing she was one of their own, her glamor properly implace, hiding what she was, a kitsune. A fox demon of the rarest kind. A snow fox. Whose tears are worth more than that of an ice maidens on the black market. Approaching the house with the people coming and going. Some crying and some laughing like a funeral was a joke. The woman looked down on the ones laughing with disdain as she approached the woman sitting on the floor under a picture of a teenager that had passed suddenly.
Getting on her knees she bowed in front of the woman before the woman seemed to focus on her for a moment.
"Yuri?"
Her voice raw from crying as the young woman sat up and looked at her.
"I'm sorry to hear about my cousin aunty Atsuko. Is there anything I can do?"
Atsuko smiled before breaking into tears and hugging Yuri.
"I'm here. I can stay as long as you need."
Hearing a commotion outside Yuri turned her head harshly and gently excused herself, Atsuko knowing that, although quite young, Yuri could handle most any problem that came her way and would discreetly disburse those disrespectful enough to disturb a funeral. Yuri had been adopted into the family as an infant and was the only cousin Yusuke had ever known. The pair had gotten into plenty of trouble as kids and had only grown more attached as they hit their teenage years. She had always shown little emotion as a child and as a teenager she was considered heartless when it came to anything emotional within the family. Turning a corner Yuri spotted the problem as two students dragging their screaming friend away and screaming their apologies as they went. At least that handled itself. We don't need that here. As she turned to walk back into the house a conversation caught her ear between what looked like two of Yuuske's teachers.
"Looks like someone who hangs around with Urameshi often. Nobody's noisier than that bunch!"
The mouse looking teacher commented.
"What a bunch of mindless jerks! Good thing he did something good before he died, that's why the name of our school went up."
The teacher with the glasses responded as Yuri turned prepared to confront the two men. He's not even cold yet. Have some respect. She thought with disdain.
"Who knows, it could be that he was kicking the boy when the car came by!"
The mouse teacher whispered, causing Yuri's blood to boil until a shorter, older man grabbed them both.
"Comparing the boys' behavior with your words, who are the mindless jerks now?"
He let the men go and walked up to Yuri, the man vaguely familiar to Yuri.
"I'm sorry for your loss."
He bowed to her as she blinked at him in surprise before bowing and saying thank you before he walked into the house while Yuri turned to the two men.
"If all you're going to do is trash talk the dead, you may leave. There is no use for your kind around here."
She looked slightly up at the teachers.
"And who are you to make us leave?"
Yuri smirked.
"The cousin of the deceased."
The mouse looking teacher smirked.
"Just as much of a trouble maker then? Just as worthless?"
Yuri smirked.
"You see, I'm worse. I know the legal way around the loopholes, especially being a defenseless girl. So unless you want your names smeared to the news as well as the reputation of your precious school. I suggest you leave."
The pair seemed to weigh that in their minds before they decided that leaving the funeral was the better idea. Yuri watched as they left, a young mother holding hands with her young son approached. Yuri watched as they knelt in front of the picture of Yusuke. As the mother knelt in front of Atsuko, Yuri approached the young boy before kneeling down to his level.
"You're very lucky."
She said gently, causing the boy to look at her with big brown eyes.
"Who are you?"
He asked curiously, causing her to smile as she gazed at the photo.
"That was my cousin."
She turned back to the child.
"You had an angel looking after you that day. Here, I have something I believe you'd like."
The boy looked intrigued as only a child can as she reached behind her and magically produced a small blue ball just smaller than a softball. The boy smiled and grabbed the ball before he was taken by his mom and the pair left. Yuri always had a soft spot for children.

Finally the house was empty and Yuri was sitting on the spare bed, making sure the house was quiet before dropping her glamor and her large silver fox ears appeared followed by her long silky tail matching her hair with a white tip, she yawned revealing her fangs. Her eyes had a more fox-like look to them. Shaking her head she looked up at the ceiling before she rolled her eyes.
"Botan."
The simple name brought her best friend to her, the blue haired pink eyed girl grinned at her.
"Hiya Yuri!"
She chimed as the fox sighed and sat on the bed.
"Tell me Botan, did my cousin make it?"
She closed her eyes waiting for the answer, Botan taking in the young fox before her that she had known for so long. Hearing the sound of a stone hitting the wood floor made her sigh and place a hand on the vixen's shoulder.
"Please don't cry, Yuri. Yuuske's okay. He's trying to come back."
Yuri blinked at her.
"He's doing the test?"
Botan smiled and nodded.
"Koenma decided to give him a chance!"
Yuri yipped happily before jumping up and hugging Botan.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Botan giggled as Yuri pulled back, her usually cold face showing just how distraught she had been at the thought of her cousin's death.
"All I need from you is to make sure nothing happens to his body."
Yuri nodded.
"Of course! Count on me!"

The next morning Atsuko woke Yuri up explaining that Yusuke was in fact still alive and they agreed to take turns watching over him until he woke up. The days passed and the two women fell into a routine. Atsuko would go on dates and party on some nights and Yuri would stay and keep watch over Yusuke. Occasionally Keiko would come over before or after school and sit with Yuri as they waited for the day he would wake up. One morning Keiko came in before school, Yuri quickly welcomed her in.
"Make yourself at home, I'm just getting ready for the day."
She smiled at the lovesick human before going back to brushing her hair in the bathroom and getting dressed in a tank top and shorts. By the time Yuri was finished Keiko had left and an announcement was made over the loudspeaker in the neighborhood.
The Day Is Hot And Dry, So Please Take Care Of Firestarters…Again…This Neighborhood Has Seen Several Fires…Ah…This Is A Notice All Neighbours Should Take Note Of!
Great. Just what we need. Yuri sighed before looking around for something to eat before realizing she needed to go to the store. Atsuko may be able to survive off booze but Yuri couldn't. Looking at Yusuke she sighed. Do I risk it and go to the store? Surely he'll be ok for a few minutes? After weighing the options in her mind she decided to take the risk and run to the store. Quickly making a list of what they needed as well as a note for Atsuko whenever she returned from her date.

"That took longer than I expected."
Yuri mumbled to herself as she walked back towards the apartment. Stopping in her tracks as her nose caught the smell of a fire before a firetruck passed her.
"Oh no."
Taking off at a run she gasped at seeing the house fully engulfed inflames. Suddenly Yuri felt a wave of power and Keiko appeared Holding Yuuske's body. Thinking quickly she ran over to help her get his body away from the flames.
"Here Keiko, I got him."
She gently took her cousin as another teenager ran up with orange hair and started talking to Keiko and offering for the girls to come to his house. Yuri agreed it would be safer and followed the pair. After officially meeting Kuwabara and his sister Shizuru, Yuri placed Yusuke down in a spare bedroom and thanked Keiko for saving him before being offered a place to stay for a few days so Atsuko could find them a new place.
"Thank you. I appreciate it."
Smiling, she hugged Shizuru before saying goodbye to Keiko who had lost some of her long hair in the fire. The next day Atsuko found them a nicer apartment and they moved in, that night she had a dream about kissing her cousin that was glowing. Sitting up she sighed and called for Botan again.
"Hiya!"
She chirped at her friend before giggling at the girl's bed head.
"Yuuske is coming back to life isn't he?"
She glanced at her friend and blinked the sleep from her eyes.
"Yes, if he misses today then he won't be able to come back for fifty years."
Yuri nodded.
"And he showed me how because he doesn't know something like me can't do it."
"Bingo!"
Yuri sighed.
"Who else did he tell?"
Botan smiled as her friend grabbed a brush and started brushing her hair, careful of her ears.
"Keiko and Kuwabara."
Yuri nodded once in thought.
"Kuwabara isn't going to be any help in this. He has potential to be a great ally, a little dense from what I gather, but, with Yusuke coming back I have a feeling I know what Koenma is going to ask him to be."
Botan nodded in agreement as the fox moved to brush her tail.
"A spirit detective. I hope Koenma knows what he's doing."
Botan smiled.
"If needed will you help?"
Yuri looked up at her with a soft smile.
"Of course. Whether it be training, or missions I'll help my cousin. I have faith Keiko will give him his kiss and bring him back."
Botan smiled as Yuri fully stood up and stretched before hugging her.
"Thank you again. I don't know what our little family would do without him."

The next day went by slowly for Yuri, she stayed out of the house until after midnight with Botan keeping her updated on her compact communicator when she could without Yusuke noticing. Finally it was 12:30 a.m. and Yuri walked into the apartment to see Keiko hugging a fully awake Yusuke.
"Hey! You're awake!"
She grinned and she walked over to her cousin and gave him a hug.
"Haven't seen you in a long time, Yuri."
She smiled and pulled back.
"I'm not going anywhere for a long time now."
