Chapter One: Be Careful of What You Wish For

Albus Dumbledore was in a bind. If he couldn't find a professor, the Ministry of Magic would stick him with Dolores Umbridge. Someone who should die before she becomes a teacher. Regardless, he had very few options. He didn't want Snape because the curse on the DADA position might kill him, Lockheart was and still is a fraud, and grabbing someone from the Hidden Continent after what happened three years ago would be in poor taste. Something about three "upstanding citizens" disappearing after the annual meeting between the Hidden Continent and the Moonlit World. 'Time to write a letter.'

"Dear Lord Hokage,

I know that writing to you after what happened three years ago is in poor taste but I have a request. There is a curse on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position at my school and was hoping you could send someone to teach for the year and remove the curse as you see fit. You will be paid handsomely for your time and they say teaching is a gratifying profession.

With humble requests,

Albus Dumbledore"

"Fawkes, please take this to Hiruzen Sarutobi on the Hidden Continent. Thank you, my friend."

Hokage Tower, Hokage's Office

Hiruzen Sarutobi hesitated. 'Do I or do I not read the letter from someone who almost killed three of my ninja? His curiosity got the better of him.

"Dumbledore,

I'm not sure if I should accept this mission after what happened three years ago but my curiosity has gotten the best of me. This is more than a teaching job or else it wouldn't be SS-ranked. If the "Dark Lord" is still giving you trouble, then we can use our "problem-solving" skills to get rid of him. Does the "Boy-who-lived" need guards? That can be arranged, too. Against my better judgment, I will accept this mission. You will receive a full squad of ANBU ready to help. Do not overstep your bounds.

Hiruzen Sarutobi

God of Shinobi

3rd Hokage

Professor"

"You can take this back to Dumbledore."

Headmaster's Office, Hogwarts

Dumbledore frowned. 'If only Lucius could contain his arrogance, then we wouldn't have this problem.' The ANBU made him nervous. They're paranoid and violent, and take orders from one man, and one man only. 'I refuse to have an international incident because Draco's mouth runs ahead of his brain.' On the other hand, only a select few people in the world could get past an entire squad of ANBU. The Dark Lord dismissed anything he considers inferior. Maybe he'll dismiss the ANBU too.

"Lord Hokage,

Thank you for accepting my request. The mission starts as soon as you can. You will find your charge at No. 4 Privet Drive. Attached is enough money for school supplies, plus some spending money for Mr. Potter. Please take care of him.

Dumbledore"

Fawkes ran the message to the Third Hokage.

_-_–_–_

Hiruzen nodded. "Can you transport more than one person?" The phoenix nodded. "Good. Team Ro + 1 will be here shortly." Fox, Tiger, Dog, and Cat appeared in the room. "This creature will transport you where you need to be. Kakashi will be the teacher or you four can decide. Any questions?"

"Is bodyguard duty, assassination, espionage?" Asked Fox.

"Bodyguard. You are guarding Harry James Potter. Have you heard of him?"

"I think all of us have heard of him. He was the one who "killed" Voldemort."

To the people of the Hidden Continent, Voldemort is a joke. His blunt-force trauma methods are only good for causing terror, not taking over a country. Gellert Grindelwald was a man that gave even the 3rd Hokage pause. He was charismatic and knew when technique was needed instead of force. He didn't make it far into Fire Country, but he made it far enough to have a healthy understanding of his capabilities.

"Any more questions?" No one said anything. "You are dismissed." Fawkes used his teleportation abilities to take them to the Headmaster's Office.

Two Minutes Later

Fawkes teleported them to No. 4 Privet Drive.

Fox scanned the area. "Is this it?"

"It is." Replied Cat.

"It reeks of despair."

Dog looked at the house with his Sharingan. "The house is covered in some kind of barrier. Looks like a blood barrier."

Tiger put his bare hand on the front lawn. "Freshly cut."

"Whoever did this is bad at yardwork or is too short to work a lawnmower; too many inconsistencies."

Fox hoped the feeling in his gut was just a feeling. 'Is the boy being abused?' "Is the boy being abused?"

Dog tried to look in the house with his Sharingan but didn't get a lot of details. "Two large bodies and one small body. The small one is facing us and has a weak life force."

Cat sighed. 'It's easier to apologize for a busted door than a dead child.' "Shall we knock?"

Fox smirked underneath his mask. "Hell, yeah." Fox kicked the door down. "Kock, knock!"

Petunia Dursley wanted to kill someone. Some loser decided to kick down her front door. "What in God's name are you doing here?! In this breaking and entering!" She yelled.

Vernon Dursley was about to confront them but Dog's ice-cold "ANBU voice" stopped them cold. "Where is Harry James Potter?"

Hearing that name made Vernon forget most of his fear. "Listen here, freaks. I will not allow your freakishness to infect normal people like us!"

Dog remained unaffected. "Tell us where he is, or we will strip this house to the bedrock until we find him."

Petunia stopped her husband from getting them all killed. "He's the broom cupboard. We keep him there so the neighbors don't notice his freakishness."

Fox knew he wouldn't like what he saw when he walked up to the cupboard. It was locked from the outside and he could sense someone in there. He didn't need the key. Using brute strength, he ripped the door off its hinges. What he saw…made him want to vomit. The boy looked seven, not eleven, and skinnier than a twig. Dried blood on his head suggested he was beaten. He forced himself to calm down. 'Calm down, Naruto. You can't help anyone if you're emotional. Step one, get him away from here.' "Cat, get working on him."

Dog's cold voice could have frozen hell. "And the Dursleys?"

"Kill them. We were never here." Vernon reached for the nearest sharp object but had that same sharp object shoved into his chest. Petunia's jugular was cut open. "Dog, kill the whale's son."

Harry couldn't see her face, but Cat's purple hair was so beautiful to him. "Are you…an angel?" He said, weakly.

Cat smiled behind her mask. "No, child."

"Can you make the pain go away?"

Cat's glowing green hands passed across Harry's body, easing the pain. "Yes, I can. Rest, child. You have a long road ahead of you."

Three days later, Ollivander's Wand Shop; Diagon Alley

The 72 hours following Harry's rescue had done wonders for the boy. Malnutrition and mental and emotional trauma don't heal overnight, but thanks to medical ninjutsu and Harry's magic, most of his physical injuries did. September 1st was a few days away and they needed to get Harry's uniform and other school supplies.

Ollivander smiled. "Harry Potter. Along with Nar-"

Fox cut him off. "Finish that sentence and it'll be the last thing you say. Do you recognize these masks?"

The wandmaker flinched and nodded. "ANBU from the Hidden Leaf. You-know-who sent 40 Death Eaters your way and all of them returned without heads and with explosives attached."

"My sincerest apologies. The ANBU can be a little…vindictive."

"Indeed. Are you here for wands? Or is it just Mr. Potter?"

Dog stepped forward. "Just Mr. Potter and I. Make this quick."

The wandmaker nodded. Normally, he would give himself some entertainment and give people different wands but doing that now would be…ill-advised. He gave Harry what he thought was the perfect wand. "Holly and Phoenix feather. Give it a wave." Suddenly, the shop lit up and every speck of dust vanished.

Harry never felt so complete. "Amazing."

Ollivander decided to look into the "brother wand" theory later. 'Curious. The brother wand belongs to he-who-must-not-be-named.' "Glad you think so., Mr. Potter. Let me fetch Dog's." After two minutes, Ollivander handed Dog an all-black wand. It had a handle like a kunai but without wrapping, 13 inches, very ridged. "This was made from a block of chakra metal. It has a thestral hair as a core and a wrapping, which is what that design is. Very ridged, very useful to transfiguration and curses." Ollivander hesitated. "Both of you will do great things in the future. Whether good or evil is up to you, but great nonetheless."

Fox cut him off. "Thank you. How much will this cost?"

"20 Galleons."

They paid for the wands and went on their way.

Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions

"Hel-Sweet Merlin! It's Harry Potter!" Madam Malkin all but shouted, causing people to come rushing to meet him.

Team Ro + 1 put a stop to that. Fox turned his eyes red for intimidation. "If anyone would like to grab Mr. Potter, they are…most welcome to try. But remember, we are bodyguards hired to protect him by any means necessary.

In a show of intentional brutality, Dog kicked a grown man in the chest hard enough to eject him from the store because he got a little close for comfort. "Does anyone else want to stop and play with the animals?" The crowd…gave them space…to avoid needing skelegro for a cracked sternum. But other than that, robe shopping was very uneventful. Something the Potter boy liked.

Fox walked beside Harry while the others guarded him from the shadows. It made Harry stand out a little bit less. "Mr. Potter? Would you like to get everything else in-person or owl-ordered? I'm sure they will bend over backward for you?"

Harry looked grateful to have the second choice. "Owl-ordered would be great."

Fox put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We can't stop them from staring at you, but no one will get close to you with us guarding you."

"Sir?"

"It's true. As shinobi, we're expected to use any means and make any sacrifices to protect the client. That means you, Mr. Potter."

Harry had no words to express his gratitude, so he nodded his head. "Where will we go next?"

"Gringotts. Stay in front of me. The goblins are greedier than most shinobi and just as ruthless." 'And they refuse to ally with us after the shit Kumo pulled in '75.'

As they made their way toward Gringotts, more and more people avoided them. Their masks reminded them of Death Eaters. This made their jobs much easier. However, whoever attacked them would have their breathing privileges revoked.

_–_–_–_

Gringotts

The line in Gringotts was surprisingly long but they didn't mind waiting. Being an ANBU is like going to the dentist's office. You sit around, read magazines, and every so often, someone tries to kill you. As proven by the spell that just flew toward Fox's head. Easily avoided, though. "I choose to ignore that. The next person who attacks me and/or Mr. Potter will be killed on the spot. Do not think I won't do that."

Goblin guards rushed to the scene. "Explain!"

"I was attacked by a wizard from the crowd. Kindly remove him or my team will do it for you. And they might just trip and fall on a sharp object on the way out. We don't want that…right?

One of the guards nodded. "No, we do not. It will a month to get the blood off the marble." He ordered the wizard to be evicted roughly. The dumbass would live but had a few bruises.

"Desk two is now open. Deathwish will see you now."

"Thank you for your stellar service."

Getting to Harry's trust vault and other Potter family vaults wasn't easy. Fox had to explain to Deathwish that Harry knew nothing about the wizarding world and that someone else had his key. He never received any bank statements either.

Deathwish scowled, not something they wanted to see. "Surely you jest? Your magical guardian said you were receiving them and knew about your current finances."

Harry was bewildered at the first part. "I have a magical guardian? Who is it?"

"Albus Dumbledore."

Fox's mind began racing. 'Dumbledore has too many responsibilities to be anyone's magical guardian, let alone the "boy-who-lived's". He wants to control Harry for reasons unknown.' "Did Lilly and James leave a will?"

"They did. But it was sealed by the Ministry with their vaults that now belong to Mr. Potter. He cannot access them until he turns 15."

'Because that's not suspicious.' "Odd."

"Indeed."

"Send all bank statements to Mr. Potter directly instead. Dumbledore can't be trusted.' 'Yet he hired us to protect Harry. Is he trying to rectify his mistakes?' "How much will it cost to disable Dumbledore's and replace it?"

"Ten galleons."

"Take it from Mr. Potter's trust vault."

"Understood. Anything else?"

"Yes. We need to pay for his tuition."

"It has already been paid for. His parents arranged for all seven years to be paid for before he was born."

"Thank you. That'll be all."

They left Gringotts and went to their last stop. The Leaky Cauldron.

_—_–_–_

The Leaky Cauldron

The ANBU pickpocketed three people, so they had the money for three nights and a small bribe. Tom noticed this but didn't do anything. Wizards do it all the time. The methods are a little different.

Fox sat down at the bar. "One room, three nights."

"That it?" Replied Tom.

"Yes." Fox put three galleons on the table. "We aren't here. Clear?"

Tom smiled greedily. "Crystal. Room 215 is empty. Second floor."

Team Ro + 1 and Harry made their way to their room to relax and enjoy their time off before things get hectic.

Kings Cross, London

Team Ro + 1 and Harry Potter were very unhappy. Harry just ran into what he thought was the correct pillar; 9 ¾. "Did I use the wrong one?'

"Did we use the wrong one?" Asked Cat

The boy-who-lived was confident he got the right pillar. "No, I'm sure of it."

"Is there a problem with the portal?"

"It won't let me through. It let everyone else through but not me."

"Then someone is trying to prevent you from coming to Hogwarts. Come with us, we will use the staff entrance." The staff entrance was one pillar north and led directly to the train instead of the train station. Making it easier for the staff to get on the train first. "Come, Potter. We haven't got all day."

"Yes, I'm moving."

After getting Harry situated in one of the compartments, the ANBU team secured it. "Do you have any friends you would like to be with?"

"Yes. Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger."

"Your friends will be along shortly."

20 Minutes Later

Someone knocked on the door and Fox answer it. "Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger?"

The redheaded boy nodded. "That's us. Who are you?"

"We are Mr. Potter's bodyguards. You will not speak to us, you will not look at us, and you will not talk about us. Though you two are Mr. Potter's friends, doing so will be…hazardous to your health. Unless you discover a threat to Mr. Potter, do not bother us. Is that clear"

Both kids nodded quickly, deathly afraid of the consequences of disobedience. "Yes, sir."

"Good. As you were."

Several hours later, Great Hall: Hogwarts

The Hogwarts Great Hall was packed with excited students once again. Time to learn more about the wonder that is magic and hope nothing goes horribly wrong again this year. Dumbledore walked to his podium. "Before we dig into our great feast, there are some announcements. Filch has given me a list of items that are now illegal to have." The old wizard went on for ten minutes. "Also, the Forbidden Forest is forbidden for a reason. Unless you want to spend your detentions with Professor Snape gathering potion ingredients, don't go into the forbidden forest. We also have some guests this year. Please come forward."

Team Ro + 1 came out from cover but only Fox approached the head table, much to the shock of the students. The rest stood next to Harry. "Interesting way of introducing us." Fox walked up to the podium. "My codename is Fox, and you will refer to me as sir, professor, or professor Fox. When I call your codename, please stand up. Cat." Cat stood up and raised her hand. "Dog." "Tiger." Tiger stood up and raised his hand. "We will take turns being your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. We will not be taking questions at this time. Please enjoy your meals." Fox left the podium to join his squad.

Dumbledore cleared his throat. "Thank you for your introduction. We will now begin this year's sorting." The sorting was uneventful, and no one seemed to bother Harry. Not after Fox's…introduction. The rest of the feast was also uneventful.

Two hours later, Dumbledore's office

Only Fox was with Dumbledore. The rest were with Harry in his dorm. "You hired us as teachers and bodyguards-is there anything else we need to know?"

"No, I don't think so. But please don't threaten the students. Hogwarts is supposed to make people feel safe." Said the eccentric headmaster.

"True enough. Where and when do we start?"

"This is a map of the school. You will be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts and the classroom is marked on the map with instructions on how to get there from wherever you are in the castle. You can use the staff dorms if you like. There should be no trouble and you will start tomorrow. Do you have any questions?"

"What do you want us to do if someone uses lethal force against Mr. Potter?"

Dumbledore hesitated. 'That is a loaded question with no right answer, and he knows it.' "Please don't kill my students. Some of them are from dark families but the child is not responsible for the sins of the father. Is that everything?"

"Yes, sir. Am I dismissed?"

"You are."

Minerva, who was with Dumbledore the whole time, didn't like this. "Are you sure this is a good idea? They'll kill the poor boy if someone else offers a better check. Or they'll kill anyone who looks at Mr. Potter the wrong way."

Severus Snape disagreed. "Doubtful. Lethal force will be met with lethal force but a stinging hex to the back will land the student in the hospital wing. Nothing Pomfrey can't fix..."

Filius agreed. "Even if that's true, it's the best we have. No one will do a better job of protecting Mr. Potter than them."

This is an idea that's been floating around in my head for a while. Kakashi will be a professor and he will take his ANBU mask off but the students will think they're two different people.
