Midnights
Lavender Haze
RPOV
Staring at the ceiling with you
Oh, you don't ever say too much
I smiled up a Dimitri, wiggling a little in his lap. He grinned back, shaking his head in amusement. I kissed the side of his neck and settled my head onto his shoulder.
And you don't really read into
My melancholia
I've been under scrutiny, yeah oh yeah
You handle it beautifully, yeah oh yeah
All this shit is new to me, yeah oh yeah
"It's almost like she's singing about us, Comrade," I teased, making Lissa giggle.
"You are basically always under scrutiny, Rose," Lissa chimed in. Dimitri raised an eyebrow at us.
I feel that lavender haze creepin' up on me
Surreal
I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say
"I guess I can see where you're coming from, Roza," Dimitri's deep voice murmured in my ear, kissing the shell. I sighed happily.
No deal
That 1950's shit they want from me
I just wanna stay
In that lavender haze
"What the hell does lavender haze even mean?" Christian asked, snark filling his tone. Lissa smacked his arm.
"It was a term they used in the '50s to describe falling in love," Dimitri informed him. I looked back at him, feigning shock.
"Figures you'd know that," I teased. He kissed my lips softly. We listened to the rest of the song in silence, letting the words fall over it. Lissa pressed pause as the last note hit.
"Rose," she began. "I think our girl has outdone herself."
"She always does, Liss," I replied, mulling over more highly relatable lyrics in my head.
"I'm honestly shocked that you're so into her, Rosie," Christian sing-songed, mockingly.
"Come on, Chrissy," I sang back. "'They're bringing up my history, but you weren't even listening?' Do you not understand how that can resonate with me?" He looked deep in thought for a minute, glancing between Dimitri and myself before slowly nodding.
"She's just so mainstream," he explained. "And you're so…" he trailed off, studying me.
"Choose your words wisely there, sparky," I growled. "Dimitri's off duty which means he doesn't have to protect you if I decide to attack."
"He still would," Christian said, without confidence and looking extra pale.
"Are you willing to take that risk?" I glared. He shifted nervously next to Lissa.
"I just mean, I thought you'd be more into, like, hard rock or heavy metal or some shit like that," he mumbled.
"I like all sorts of music," I answered primly. Dimitri snorted in his effort to not laugh. I turned my glare on him. He held his hands up defensively. I held my glare for a second longer, before lunging forward and pulling his lips to mine. He kissed me back, deeply, arms circling around my waist. I pulled away, slapping his shoulder.
"Don't laugh at me," I demanded quietly. He kissed my forehead.
"I wouldn't dream of it, my love," he whispered. I glanced back at Lissa and Christian, feeling their eyes on us. Lissa was grinning and Christian was trying to scowl but I could see in his eyes that he was happy for us. I reached for Lissa's hand and she grasped mine. We squeezed gently.
"Have I mentioned lately how unbelievably happy I am for you?" she asked. I shot her a goofy grin.
"Only every day," I responded. I snuggled further into Dimitri, stuck in my own lavender haze.
