Of Silly Humans and Grumpy Youkai
By Zoisaito_no_Kage
"Rin wants to go with Sesshoumaru-sama!"
"Dim-witted girl, you can't go!"
"Why?! Rin doesn't want to be left alone!" The young girl stared defiantly at the diminutive toad youkai.
Jaken's green face was turning red. "Stupid Rin! You're only a weak human, you'll be a hindrance. Sesshoumaru-sama doesn't want to waste his time watching your back."
"But what if bandits find Rin? What if the villagers find out Rin ate their melons and are angry? What if a youkai wants to kill Rin? What if –"
"Stop your foolish speculations. No one cares about you, and you're lucky Sesshoumaru-sama even lets you tag along."
"Sesshoumaru-sama doesn't mind!"
"How would you know?"
"Jaken-sama's not being fair!"
"You're being stubborn!"
She heard no footsteps, but she was immediately aware of when a tall commanding presence approached. "Sesshoumaru-sama!"
The youkai lord gazed expressionlessly at his young human charge. "You will stay here, Rin."
Rin jumped to attention. "Hai!"
"Jaken, you remain here and watch her while I'm gone."
Jaken gaped, then sputtered, "But – but Sesshoumaru-sama!"
Sesshoumaru raised an aristocratic eyebrow, and Jaken angrily fell silent. Satisfied, the white-haired youkai turned away.
Rin cried, "How long will you be gone? You will come back soon, won't you?"
He didn't reply, didn't bother turning back to reassure her, simply continued on his path.
"Come back soon!" she shouted. "We'll be waiting, okay?!"

And that is my short little portrait of Sesshoumaru-sama's departures. (How much cuter can Rin get, eh?) ^_^ Please review, thanks!
