Now that Blaine is out of training he finally can start working in the hospital. He luckily already got shown around and got to know the place and staff members. That way he can focus on work from day one.
In the morning Blaine goes to the locker room, changes into his work clothes and then goes over to the counter to start his first day.
"God morning Monica" he greets the head nurse who greets him back with a smile "Good morning Blaine. Let me show you what the last bit we hadn't time for. Your tasks. You already know that you will take care of a long term patient. The nurse before you had to quit".
"Yeah I know. He'll be my priority but I also help the other nurses with the other patients if they need help" the young man answers, walking around the counter to get a look at the files from some patient but most importantly his long term patient.
"Kurt Hummel, 21 years old. One year ago he was in a plane crash and is in a come since. This is the long term patient we talked about. You'll take care of him, regulary check up on him, his vitals, repositioning and very important be there for his family and friends. Any more questions?" Monica reports.
Blaine shakes his head, eyes still fixed on the file. "Great follow me and I'll show you his room. Take the file with you so you can learn more about him and get to know him.His family usually comes around noon where you have the best opportunitly to take your break and eat lunch" Monica says while she leads Blaine to the room.
With the file Blaine walks into Kurts room. For the next hour Monica gives his time to get to know the boy and his background. The poor boy went through a lot over the last year, even tho he probably didn't noticed anything.
But all injuries and surgeries he had… If he ever wakes up again he'll feel the concequences.
Blaine looks at the comatose box. He's hardly two years younger than Blaine himself and already missed a year of his life.
Then Blaine sits down on a chair next to the bed and starts reading Kurt Hummel's file.
After the plane crash Kurt got transported to the nearest hospital, his life threatened.
Even tho the young man tried to protect himself he got more injuries than the doctors hoped for, considering his condition.
He got several broken ribs, a rib series fracture to be more specific. Some splinters hurted our parts of his body, causing internal bleedings. Another splinter hurted his lung, which was already at risk since the boy got pneumonia from the sudden change ic air pressure.
His head stood under a lot of pressure as well and the doctors think that this is one of the reasons that the boy is comatose but it's unusual that he's still not awake.
To these bad injuries Kurt also got a broken wrist and a knee fracture. After several operations the Hummel boy was more or less stable so his father insisted on a transfer to a hospital in Lima, near his family.
Since then he got a few more operations but over the year he got more stable and his injuries healed.
All that's left for Kurt is to wake up and fight his way back to normality.
Next Blaine looks at Kurt Hummel's background or at least at the informations he can find. If Blaine still wants to know more he can ask the boys family later that day. For now the file has to be enough.
Kurt went to WMHS before. Blaine smiles a bit. The boy looked familiar when he saw him and now Blaine knows why.
Their schools competed against each other at sectionals and regionals at the show choir competitions two years in a row. He saw the boy on stage back then but it's been a few years. Still Blaine remembers that the boy was fantastic.
Then he went to NYADA. A school for dramatic. It fits well for someone who's been in a glee club. The boy loves performing and dramatic arts and Blaine can imagine. He used to be the same but his dream changed and he's still happy now. More than happy.
After reading all of this he stands up again and looks at the boy. Since he gets artificially respirated through a throat catheter the young male nurse can see his face.
Yes. Now that he looks at the boy for a bit longer he remembers seeing him on stage back then. He takes Kurts hand and smiles "Hey Kurt. I'm Blaine Anderson and I'll take care of you from now on. It's lovely to meet you".
Professionals never found out if comatose people sense things that happen around them. Some say this and some say that. Either way it's not wrong to communicate in care they do sense something.
If so and if Blaine would be in Kurts position and knows what's going on, he doesn't want to get checked up by people he doesn't know and who didn't even introduced themselves to him. Comatose or not.
Now with Blaine introducing himself it's more comfortable for the both of them.
With a look at his watch he realize ka that it's time to go back to the other patients. He lets go of the boys hand, takes the file and goes to the door. After one last, quick look over the shoulder he opens the door and goes out, closing the door behind him.
