In My Eyes

Prologue
Somewhere out in the distance
The radio's beckoning me on I feel
I'm right back there with you again
I wonder if you're listening
Does it make you think about the time
We ran out laughing in the rain
I'm caught up in the Monday Blues
I can barely take my mind off you
It's just a silly song about love
And here comes the chorus
Every summer has a song
That reminds me of the good times that passed
If only they last forever
And when they play it on the radio
It takes me back to the last time we were
Dancing somewhere
The dj playing it all night long
Every summer has a song.
Jonas listened to the first song he ever heard, it was on an old album
called a 'CD'. "Hear that Gabe? It's called music, isn't it." he paused looking for the right word, "Beautiful?" he finally said. Gabe squealed as he listened to
it. Jonas heard a knock on the door, "Come in," he said to the visitor. "Hello Jonas!" A young woman named Abigail came in, "How's Gabriel?" she
asked, "Wonderful, he can go to sleep soundly now," Jonas said excited. Abigail
was Jonas's neighbor. When he first arrived, Abigail and her husband,
Gregory, let them stay until they finished building their house. Jonas sighed, remembering their journey here, and how the Giver had helped them. He also thought about Fiona, and smiled. Abigail looked at him with solemn
eyes,
"You miss them, don't you dear?" she asked him, "Yes, I miss the Giver, and Asher, and Fiona." Jonas said thinking back to before he had left, before he had been selected to be the next Receiver of Memory. Abigail hugged him and waved goodbye, because she had to finish her last errands of the day. "Goodbye Abigail!" Jonas waved. Gabriel started to squirm, and stretching out his arms. "You want something to eat, buddy?" Jonas asked. Gabe giggled and squirmed waiting for his food. Jonas mashed
up some bananas, one of Gabe's favorites. "Here you go, little man," he
said to the 1 and half year-old.
After Gabe ate, he fell asleep. "I wish I knew what you were dreaming little guy," Jonas said, looking at the little tike. He picked Gabriel up
and put him in his small crib. "Goodnight, Sweet Dreams," Jonas covered Gabe up in his blanket, and kissed him on the forehead, as he has seen in
one of his memories of love. Soon after, Jonas went to bed too. His dream was the first memory of love
that the Giver had given to him. He smiled in his blissful sleep.
