Chapter 2
Everything was great. Tony felt like he was on cloud 9, which he kind of was. He was floating through the sky, without his suit. He had pizza in one hand, and a scotch in the other. This was the life. No work, no paparazzi, and most importantly, no-what was that sound?
Through the peace and quiet, there was a voice. Calling his name, it was getting more and more persistent, and loud. So loud! What on earth was-
'Stark!'
Tony's head bolted up from the table. He looked around sleepily. His teammates were all staring at him, Natasha was rolling her eyes. Rude.
He looked across the table at Steve who was nodding his head slightly to Tony's right. Tony looked to where he was gesturing and met the eye of one Nick Fury.
'Have a nice nap, Stark?' Fury asked, arms folded.
'I was, until I was so rudely interrupted,' Tony grumbled, slouching back in his chair.
Fury took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. How did he get stuck working with Tony Stark? 'Well now that we're all awake (he said this looking at tony, who looked innocently back) let's begin the meeting.'
Tony groaned. He hated meetings. What could be so important that he has to be here before noon?
'It has been brought to my attention that not all of the public sees the avengers as heroes.'
Tony frowned at that. How could people not like them? How could people not like him? Okay that he could believe, he was a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist after all. Not everyone was super fond of those kinds of people.
'We want the people to feel safe, and to do so, I am giving you an assignment that you most likely will not be thrilled to do.' He paused at that. Oh no, how bad could this be?
'People, in this case, parents, feel as though the avengers send a bad message to the youth, encouraging them to try dangerous activities and stunts to "be more like their heroes." To right this, and stress to the public that this is not our intention, I am sending a selected few of you into the local schools to talk to the children there. You will inform them how you protect them, but also that what you do is very dangerous. You must get them on your side so they will listen to you. For their own safety.'
Tony must have misheard. Talk to children? In schools? Uh, no thank you.
The others seemed to have similar thoughts from the looks of it. Bruce looked particularly nervous at the idea; Natasha, as usual, showed very little reaction, although her brows were slightly furrowed. Steve, Mr, golden boy, was nodding slightly at what Fury had said, seemingly agreeing with his reasoning. Clint looked sceptical butdidn't disagree. Probably because he had kids and knew how to talk to the things.
Before Tony could get a say in though, Fury continued.
'Rodgers, you'll be attending the first school, along with Barton and Stark. The rest will be decided closer to the time. Any questions?' Tony opened his mouth to protest, but Fury heard his whining before he even got a word in.
'No? Good. Dismissed.' And with that, he strode out the door.
Tony groaned loudly. 'Quit your whining, Stark,' Natasha said without even looking at him. 'Easy for you to say, you don't have to do it!' Tony moaned.
'This will be good for us, and the kids,' said Steve, with a look of pride yet humbleness on his face. 'Who knows, maybe it'll be fun!' Clint suggested, although he didn't sound so sure.
Great. A school trip with Robin Hood and Captain Sunshine. This was going to be a long week.
