Dawn: Convergence

One Hour Until Complete Destruction

Samus Aran never considered herself a hero.

She was a bounty hunter, a soldier of fortune, first and foremost. But today, she needed to play the part. Or else, everyone and everything was doomed.

As she watched grey ash fall from a bloody crimson sky, she came to a realization. This was worse than Tabuu, worse than Galeem and Dharkon, worse than any incident before. This wasn't Subspace, this was the Convergence. The merging of worlds. And as Samus helped another family of toads out of a pile of rubble, the thought that this may truly be it for the worlds…

No, Samus. No time for thoughts like that.

Samus ducked down into another bombed out building, stepping over rubble on the caved in floor. She held her arm cannon at the ready. No telling what could be slithering around in here. Her scanners beeped slowly as they hovered back and forth in the room, looking for any signs of life. Until… Beep!

"Someone there?" She asked. The sounds of shifting rubble gave way to a squeaky voice.

"Yes! Yes! We're in here. Please, star spirits above, help us!"

"I'm coming!" Samus rushed into the next room over to see a Toad clutching a baby, a ceiling beam nearly crushing them both. Samus wasted no time in lifting the beam. The Toad crawled out from under with her baby. Samus lifted the Toad up and escaped the building.

"Head for Smash Manor," Samus said, setting the Toad down with a squeak, "You'll be safe there!"

"May the stars bless you!" The Toad said, carrying its child. Samus watched as they ran. Why? Because the baby toad looked back at her all the way until they were no longer in view. Samus pivoted on her heels and ran. Before long, she built up speed and began a shine spark, becoming a blur of motion until an earthquake cracked the land. The path she was running on changed. Soil overturned the bricks and a golden light slashed down the ground. Samus stopped dead.

"The Mushroom Kingdom and… Ylisse?" Samus thought as she saw a certain blue haired swordswoman on the other side of the golden light.

"Samus?" Lucina asked, leading a trail of survivors. Tattered and injured, but survivors no less. They ducked behind Lucina, clearly scared of Samus's futuristic appearance. To them, she must've seemed worse than Grima himself. Or perhaps they thought this was his work too? No matter.

"How many more are there?" Lucina asked, walking up to Samus.

Samus shook her head, "No telling. And no time to talk, get moving! Rescue as many as you can!" Samus said, pointing to the survivors. "Take them to the mansion, that's gonna be the safe point. Good luck."

Samus walked past before bursting out into a sprint. Lucina's hair whipped in the wind as Samus shine sparked past, her body aglow. Nodding, Lucina pointed her sword northward, Manor bound. A shining resolution in her heart, she charged ahead.

"Follow me!" She cried. The survivors followed suite. Lucina's eyes narrowed as her heart hardened.

She wouldn't fail this time.

"Father, just watch me."

Under the same crimson sky, Princess Peach blinked away the welling tears in her eyes. In the span of only a few hours, her life had begun to crumble around her. Her castle? Dust and ash mixed with rubble. Her people? Scattered to the winds of other worlds. She prayed to the Star Spirits for their safety. The only thing keeping those tears back and truly away was Daisy's calm hand on hers, telling her that she better not cry. She could cry later, but not right now!

An hour passed as the royals assembled in front of Smash Manor. The panel took place in the World of Trophies. televised to whoever was still around to see it. From one Earth to another. The flashes of cameras irritated Bowser but he was calmed by Prince Marth. No use in creating more of a scene. The paparazzi were like vultures, circling around their meal of choice: news. Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Lady Palutena, and many more royals from all corners of the omniverse stood shoulder to shoulder, none of them truly prepared for what was about to happen.

"Princess! What do you have to say about the convergence? We saw your castle go down in flames! Are we going to be okay?" A Toad reporter asked, holding out a microphone. The Princess seethed before trying to answer.

"Yes… well, I-" The words left in a garbled mess. But she didn't get to finish, as another reporter popped up. This time, for the royals to Peach's left.

"Prince Marth? Princess Zelda? What about the merging of Altea with Hyrule? Why are you with the Smashers instead of with your people?" A Hyrulian asked.

Zelda grew incredulous, "The safety of my people is my biggest concern. That's why I'm here! Working with my allies to find a way to ensure my people's safety!"

Prince Marth followed up, "I agree. The convergence is of our greatest concern. I won't rest until I'm sure my people are safe."

"Princess Daisy! Is it true that Sarasland is using the Convergence to invade Mushroom Kingdom territory?"

The Flower Monarch's eyebrows twitched, "Excuse me?! The Mushroom Kingdom has been nothing but good to Sarasland! Why would we? Why I oughta bop you one for-"

"Enough!" Princess Peach shouted. The reporters turned cold as the world fell silent. All eyes turned to the Princess as she stepped down off the platform and into the crowd. Her movements controlled yet fluid. She gave off a loving, caring aura. Each syllable she was about to speak came from the heart, "I understand. Please believe me, I do. I understand your fear, your anger, your despair… But turning on each other like ravenous chain chomps won't do anything. We, the Smash Brothers, have our top minds working on a solution. I swear to you, as the reigning monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom… We will protect you… I promise… Thank you."

By the time she was done, The Princess was past the crowd. She turned back, looked at everyone one last time, nodded, and then left.

Even Bowser couldn't help but smile at the display.

Deep within the dark recess of Smash Manor, Mario, Captain Falcon, and Master Hand watched the news with urgent despair. Mario gripped Cappy with bated breath. The Original Twelve were veterans. The best of the best. At times like this, they were the ones everyone looked to for guidance… But like this, now? Even Mario couldn't help but unconsciously clench Cappy in anger

"Mario, you're squeezing me a bit tight, buddy." Cappy complained.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Mario said, releasing his grip.

"It's okay, Cappy said, "What are we going to do?"

Mario didn't answer.

"We have under an hour until the worlds are completely merged. Samus is out rescuing survivors, so are the swordsmen teams as well as Little Mac." Captain Falcon reached out his hand and opened his palm. A disk shaped object was in it. It lit up and exposed a holographic map of the worlds. Several Fighter icons dotted the map like a chess game. Lucina in Mushroom-Ylisse, Little Mac on a strange futuristic Earth, Samus on Venom, so on.

"The panel went about as well as I was expecting" Master Hand said, standing on two fingers, "But the Princess was truly masterful in crowd control, better than I could have hoped. And now, we have a little more time. Shulk and R.O.B!"

At the call, the two entered the room. Between them, they carried a large silver bomb, with a violet X painted down the middle.

Hopefully, the solution to it all.

"Reusing subspace technology… I, uh, I don't like it." Mario said.

"At this point, we have no other option." Captain Falcon replied, silencing the capped plumber.

"Don't worry, Mario. The research checks out. If we set it off at the heart of the merge… then we should be able to reverse the polarity of the convergence." R.O.B said

"I still don't like it. Sounds like it might make it worse… Where is it going anyway?"

"Here."

The room went silent at Shulk's statement.

"What?" Mario asked.

Shulk walked over to the holomap in Falcon's hand. Using a finger, he traced the paths of merging along it. Long golden lines, cracked and jagged like broken glass danced along the map until they all came to a single place…

Smash Manor.

"It's clear. We're the heart of the convergence, Smash Manor."

"Then you're saying we're the reason-"

"No," R.O.B interuptted Captain Falcon, "Not really, there's not enough data to say. But the point stands… The death and the birth of the omniverse will take place right under this very roof."

"Everyone inside!"

A host of different species ran inside the Manor. Lucina and Chrom ushered people inside, Peach and Zelda healed those that needed it. Fox and Falco flew overhead, looking for any stragglers.

"Thats' the last of them," Fox shouted over the COM system. "T-Minus Five Minutes."

Mario nodded as he helped Shulk and R.O.B secure the bomb. "It's ready," Mario said to the inklings through the coms. They had been the first recruits of the "Ultimate" Generation. A sense of pride swelled within him, seeing those rookies become fully competent heroes, "Are you all okay?" he asked.

The Inklings spoke back. "Okay and ready to help!"

Mario nodded. "Right."

Link and Marth were at the very end of the crowd, guiding people in with their shining swords. The Villagers and Isabelle helped wounded citizens.

"Everyone, get inside! You're in terrible danger," The shout came from Marth.

The two swordsmen fell back as a another golden line slashed through the dirt before them, cutting them off from the outside world. A fresh wave of terror washed over the inhabitants of the manor. The heroes and villains bunched together, backing up as they defended themselves and the people from the oncoming convergence. Everyone gravitated to the heavy weights, hoping that they would provide cover from the threat to all worlds.

"Five seconds!"

Mario fell in line beside Peach, who had a colony of Toads gathered around her.

"Looks like this is it," she said. She looked at him, her ocean blue eyes looking right into the plumber's heart.

"I know, Peach," he said, "The birth of another new world," Mario said, grasping her hand. "We can only hope R.O.B and Shulk are right."

Peach gently kissed him on the cheek. "It'll be okay," she said. "This has happened before, remember?

"Here it comes!" Someone shrieked.

Mario smiled at her. The two tightened their grip on each other's hand and closed their eyes as golden light washed over them.
