The Forbidden Sound
I sit in my room
Feeling alone and unwanted
Until the surrounding silence
Drives me downstairs to the piano
Where I can always banish it
I sit down and place my hands on the keys
When a sound drifts to my hungry ears
A forbidden sound that I am not meant to hear
I try and stay where I am
Lest I betray my presence
But my heart and ears hunger for the sound
I silently make my way to the closed kitchen door
Inside my mother is humming a happy tune
A tune she would stop if she knew I was near
For she's never happy when I'm around
So I silently make my way back to my room
Knowing that she is happy
And for once I didn't spoil her mood with my presence
Dedicated to The Phantom Parisienne. Who was my inspiration for this poem.
