Hiya folks!
Here i come with a comission I did for the awesome /gumballfanatic from twitter. Just some Anne trying to balance being a well respected herpetologyst with being a GOD of near unlimited power.
Enjoy!
It was a good party. Well, for an eight-year-old it was, not so much for Anne, who had to babysit twenty kids. But she was beyond herself because a child wanted her birthday party to be at Amphibialand; Anne's little space at the aquarium.
As the last kid left with her parents, Anne closed the doors and looked at the place. Damn, it was a mess. The aquarium had cleaning personnel, but Anne felt bad leaving all this work for some unfortunate else.
She took a moment to focus on her core, splitting it into seven parts; seven Annes were now there.
"Alright team, let's split up," said the first Anne.
They got to work. The other Annes (because they weren't clones; they were all Anne) checked on the habitats and gave dinner to its amphibian residents. The first Anne cleaned the place, summoning a wind that sucked all the party hats, popped-off balloons, and other trash and made it into a ball of garbage. With a snap of her fingers, the ball turned into ashes. Done. Now the cleaning lady's only job will be to mop the floor.
The other Annes finished their duties as well, and as they did they turned into light and merged with the first Anne.
With Amphibialand settled, Anne left the aquarium for the cold, breezy night. She checked her phone. She had a message from Marcy.
'Hey, Anna Banana! Hope the party is going well. Can you pick takeout at your parents' place on your way home or should I cook?'
Marcy was trying to get into cooking. And she was failing. Anne texted her to not go even near the stove, typing her answer without touching her phone's screen. Then she went behind a nearby tree —her usual spot. She turned into light and flashed away.
The particles which composed Anne could ignore the distance between two points, and less than a millisecond later she was outside her parent's restaurant.
Thai Go was boiling with people, her dad going left and right, back and forth. Anne stopped him to ask him for some takeout.
"No can do, Annie. We have our hands full and no time at all," Anne's dad wheezed.
No time at all? Now that was an idea. Anne made a spinning circle with her hands, slowing time to a halt. People stopped mid-motion, food stopped on its way to the mouths, and a spilled drink froze before wetting the floor. Time has left the room (and everywhere else).
Anne brought his dad his time back, and as he saw what Anne had done, he sighed.
"Thanks, kiddo. I don't think I could've taken much more of that." He left his tray on a nearby table. "Now let's go unfreeze your mom and make you dinner. Maybe you can help with some late orders?"
Anne agreed, even though she was tired. She had all the time in the Universe to spare.
An hour or so later (it was hard to calculate the time when it didn't exist), Anne had her takeout. She said goodbye to her parents, unfroze time, and flashed out of the kitchen. She reappeared at her apartment's door. She saw the landlord (who was fixing the door of the apartment opposite of her), eyeing her, mouth agape and eyes wide.
"Forget what you saw," Anne COMMANDED, and the landlord's eyes glowed white.
When he came to his senses he gave his usual salutatory 'hum!' to Anne.
Anne went inside and Domino 3 came and rubbed herself against Anne's legs. Anne made the bags float in the air to properly pet her cat with both hands. She found herself alone in the living room. The apartment was immense inside, nearly the size of a penthouse. A little trick of Anne.
She left the food in the kitchen and searched Marcy's office. She found her sitting in front of the computer, legs on her chair, drawing something as some very loud k-pop came from the speakers. Anne sneak-flashed behind her and put her arms on her shoulders. Marcy jumped from her chair but when she saw who she was, she muted the speakers.
"Anne! That was mean. Don't do that. You could've scared me to death," Marcy whined.
"And you're gonna give yourself early deafness with how loud you listen to your jams." She kissed Marcy's lips. "I've brought the food. Your favorite. Are you done?"
"Almost. We should wait for Sasha before eating. I'll text her."
"There's no need." Anne closed her eyes. She saw Sasha stuck on the highway because of a car crash. With a bit of mental effort, Anne made the cars move quite faster.
"She's late," she told Marcy. "She'll be here in twenty."
And lo and behold, twenty minutes later, Sasha came through the door.
"You guys won't believe the crash I passed by. Nasty stuff." Sasha sniffed the air. "Is that Thai Go I smell?"
"Sure it is," said Marcy, who had joined Anne in watching TV. She sprung up and hung herself at Sasha's neck to kiss her. "It might be a little cold now, 'tho."
"Don't worry about that," Anne greeted Sasha with a kiss as well. "I'll take care of it."
She guided them to the kitchen and pointed a finger at the bags of Thai food. She made a spinning circle and reversed the food's time.
"There! Warm and freshly made," said Anne proudly.
Sasha and Marcy shared a look before bursting into laughter.
Sasha said, "Anne, we have a microwave, you know? You don't have to use your godly powers for everything."
Anne smiled weakly. She couldn't explain to them she couldn't not use her powers more than they couldn't choose not to breathe.
They had dinner together, chatting and laughing and talking about how tired they were from their respective days. When they were done Anne was going to wipe clean the dishes with one hand motion, but Marcy insisted on scrubbing them the old-fashioned way. Since it was Friday, Sasha suggested a short movie marathon. Marcy agreed enthusiastically. Anne agreed too, quietly, before excusing herself to the bathroom.
She washed her face, trying not to look in the mirror. Eventually, she had to brush her teeth and was forced to face her reflection. Three eyes stared at her, each one with one shining star in it. A red one, a blue one and a green one. Her skin was a color the mix of marble and ashes, decorated with cracks that glowed bright white light; she was like a porcelain door about to break apart. Her hair was a shining blue, with twigs for horns. Two pairs of feathery wings sprouted from her back.
Anne didn't know what was worse. That this was her true form, or that she could never show it to anyone. Would Sasha and Marcy be horrified? Probably not. But it would be a reminder that Anne Boonchuy, the human, was dead, and that the Anne they had was an alien copycat.
She was feeling very restrained now. Sasha and Marcy won't mind if she was gone for a few hours; especially because they won't know. Anne stopped time and then drew a body-sized square with her finger. A door appeared in the bathroom. Anne went inside, into her 'office'.
Her godly office was the same as the old Three Stones Deity's; a wooden house in the middle of an island, floating in space surrounded by others, empty islands.
Anne freed herself from the restraints of the flesh. She grew in size and stretched her wings until they were so wide they darkened the sky.
She entered the house. Several bubbles, ranging from the size of marbles to beach balls, filled the place. Anne's projects. Once again, she split her core into seven parts, and they began to check on the experiments. Some of the Universes she'd made were still empty, devoid of even planets, while others were already bursting with intelligent life. Anne never interfered. She just created them and observed.
The first Anne, however, watched over a small Universe. To think she once had Amphibia's fate in her hands, and now their whole world fitted inside her palm!
She watched over all of her friends, but especially she watched over Sprig. She was on a hill with Ivy —a date, no doubt. After a while, Ivy began to leave. Sprig was about to go after her. Anne tapped the bubble. Sprig stopped. She hasn't done anything, just gave him a feeling, grew a thought in the back of his head. Made him wait. He looked at the stars. Anne made them shine brighter just for him.
"Good night, Anne," Sprig said before taking after Ivy.
As she does God's work, Anne wonders what would have been like if she hadn't taken the Deity's offer. She often looked into tangent Universes; one's where the offer was rejected. Those Annes seemed happier than she was. But maybe it was a 'the grass is always greener' situation. And this job had its perks; like holding your best friend's whole life in your hand.
After a few hours of work, Anne opened the door back to her apartment. She made time flow normally and left the bathroom. Her girls were right where she left them; sitting on the couch with a blanket over their shoulders and a bowl of popcorn in the middle. Anne took a seat in between them and enjoyed each second of their marathon. Sasha and Marcy fell asleep quickly. Anne stayed awake, too excited as she planned their next trip to Amphibia.
And her mood lifted as she thought that, alienating as it was, being a god wasn't too bad. Not if she could still have simple moments like these.
And that's that.
Again, I want to thanks / gumballfanatic for this comission, which was very fun to make.
